I looked forever for something like this online but couldn't find it. It was probably because doctors say that there should be no pillows or blankets in a baby's crib so no one wants to sell a pillow and get sued if something happens. I have a 13 month old who had a DOC band and am giving birth again tomorrow. So we are trying to do everything possible to prevent having to pay $3500 again for a DOC band. This would be great if it weren't for the risk of suffocation from a pillow. What do you all think? Is a swaddled newborn (for the first month only while she isn't so mobile) stationary enough to not have to worry so much about her turning over onto the pillow?

Calipers = more general tool name for " craniometer. "

Are you near Boston? Somebody else in your position wrote a blog:

http://www.squidoo.com/Head-Cup--fixing-Plagiocephaly-without-a-helmet

and gives a pretty good description of the item, if not proprietary

designs.

We used MIMOS pillow for almost 2 months until we got a band. I was a bit afraid

about SIDS at first but they are made of a breathable fabric and my daughter

loved it. I strongly believe it prevented my daughter's plagio from getting

worse.

I'm a very careful mommy and would never recommend anything that might harm a baby. Heck after hearing about wrap deaths by suffocation I'd be scared. moms walking around the store not knowing their baby is dying. Sends shivers through my spine. That said I started with a bare crib and ended up with everything but the kitchen sink in it! I did have a body movement sensor but mainly I just decided to never sleep again :P I had exceptions though, my baby stopped breathing 5 times a day and so I had to do a lot of positioning and rolled up blankets and body pillows to get her in the best position. Another reason I never slept.. I had to be ready at the go to get her breathing again. So I did inadvertantly have a body pillow but it didn't have a hole in it like the mimos(?). I had

no idea tummy time was important because of the head shape. I thought it was a muscle thing. It took her until more like 6 months to roll over and that's when things started getting removed from the crib.

Great update, .

20 weeks = 5 months (but can't be rolling over); looks like the three

month limit was the old model.

And check the picture out, -- patent pending, so it's not

official, right? -- with an old toboggan, a heat gun, and some

stadium seat cushions, you might put something like that together for

under $50. (Just don't breathe the fumes.) ;)

I think the old design we've talked about emulating also supported

more than just the head, with two layers of different-density foam

from the craft store, floral design section. (Maybe that patent got

rejected?)

Eventually, you know, creative people who live in places where half

the GDP doesn't go into medicine WILL come up with a cheaper helmet.

There must already exist some non-toxic expanding foam for house

insulation, which someone could spray into a sand pail and quickly

dunk over their kid's head. Forget digital images, skip the

" modeling " step altogether -- go straight to remodeling with a rough

stone after it dries, to fashion an active helmet. Bail = chin

strap... very " devo. " (As in, developing country.) :)

Tech(DOC BAND) wanted 4,800 includes everything. Ahhh there is no way! I would

lose my house and I can't open and credit card or take on the debt right now.. I

find it disgusting they are CASHING in on a babies deformity... DISGUSTING

REALLY... I even wrote them to see if there was assistance and their REPLY WAS

" NO " we offer payment plans or care credit which has high interest....

How old was your daughter when she started to use it? Sophia is 3 months already

and I have read these pillows have little effectiveness after 3 months. Because

the bones start to harden?

personally I did not have an issues with my son... Sophia how ever was born with

tortacolis which caused the Plagio. If was not diagnosed till 2 months and we

did not start treatment till three months referrals waiting for appts etc

diagnosed two weeks before Christmas. Since you have the knowledge already I

would get the pillow. Cranial Tech(doc bands) are not affordable. YOUR OLDEST

CHILD WAS LUCKY TO HAVE ONE:)Knowing now what I did not know then I wish my

child would of had a chance:(
