More Blisters... Now What?

The subject line pretty much says it all. We've got more big

blisters. Now what do we do?

Let me start by saying that Zachary (born with bcf) has been in the

DBB 23/7 for two full months. He just turned 5-months-old. He

receives his care at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto and his little

feet are fully corrected. He had blisters in the very beginning when

he started in the DBB with Markell shoes (new style with holes in

heels). The hospital has a large orthotics department and extra

padding was added to his boots when he was fitted for the DBB by our

orthosist. Two weeks after the initial fitting, we had to return to

get some of the padding removed. We also requested a longer bar for

our son and that seemed to clear up the first set of blisters.

Last week on holidays we noticed Zachary's heels were starting to

look irritated again and the skin has been rubbing off. We have an

appointment with the orthosist next Wednesday morning to have the

brace examined and the padding adjusted. Does anyone have any

suggestions as to what might be happening with Zachary's heels?

Could he be outgrowing his shoes? Could the bar be too short again?

My husband has become very good at putting the shoes on and it

doesn't look like Zach's heels are rising, but his feet must be

moving around in the shoes. We've got the buckles on the lower level

and pulled very tightly. The laces are also done up as tight as

possible. If anyone has any suggestions, we're all ears. Please

help!

P.S. We are using Lasinoh daily during the 1 hr. he's out of the

brace and we are airing out those feet. We have also been extra

careful to only leave the brace off 1 hr. / day.
