Guest guest
Judith, Max's reflux is out of control, too. I, too, have tried to reach someone at Dr. H.'s and had no reply for three weeks. Yadira told me to email Dr. H. and the times that would be good. I did that and still she never replied. I feel so badly for . I know how Max is complaining about the reflux. And I know the sound you are talking about. He probably sounds a bit like Max. Why is this happening to our kids? I thought that the fundo. was supposed to stop this. I intend to discuss this with Dr. H. tomorrow. I'll also tell her about and see if I can get info for you. Our appt. is at 2, though. The treatment for Max right now as per his GI is to take Protonix 2x/day. That is supposed to keep those proton pumps from making any acid at all. I guess there is some reprieve, but not much. I'm sorry you have to work so hard. And Becca's comment would have just made me sob. At least your husband is there for them. I know he's not mommy, but he is really warm and caring. Guest guest
Hi Just read a few things here that remind me of Liam(4.5 RSS) firstly Liam seems to go through stages of his reflux being under control and then, medication just not working. Our new GI Dr has us using zantac once a month for a week, which seems to help. Liam is on Losec a proton pump inhibitor, morning on night(20mg and 10mg), because he has a gtube, when he first started we used zantac (which neutralises the acid)for a week. Proton pump inhibitors are deactivated in acid, thats why they have an enteric coat which carries them through the stomach past the acid. When we break the tablet to dissolve it and put it through the gtube, it goes into the acid in the stomach. By starting with the zantac, we neutralise the acid and the drug has a chance to work. But we have to use the zantac quite regularly to ensure the Losec has a chance to work. I know Dr H is aware of this, so I may be preaching stuff already known, but it amazes me how I can become unaware of whats happening. eg Liam has an infection, probably vommits his Losec when he has a high temp, the acid takes over in his stomach again and the losec just doesnt work even though he is on big doses, until we reintroduce the zantac, and get everything under control again. Sorry this is long winded, I know reflux is soooo hard to live with and get under control. Jody(mum to Liam 11kg(still) ?90cm gh, losec, zantac, movicol, and at present 2x antibiotics for ear infections) > > Jodi Z, > > Right now I am totally jealous that you are seeing Dr H tomorrow. Guest guest
Hi Jody, 's reflux has been under control for so long, that this is new territory for us. Hopefully Dr H will get back to me today or tomorrow. I think it is time for a change in medication. He has been on prilosec and zantac for so long, that even though we have steadily increased the dose, I think they are loosing their effectiveness. Thanks for the information, I will talk to Dr H about it. Guest guest
My question is, and I intend to bring this up with Dr. H. today, WHY are our kids having so much trouble with reflux after we put them through the nissen fundo? It seems that Max's reflux is worse than it has been for a long time. It's been only a little over 2 years since his surgery. What is going on? I'll let you know what Dr. H. says.
