Guest guest
I sent this to a friend just starting the diet. These are just our favorite breakfast ideas & helps. I try to keep things simple. I thought it might help some of you just starting the diet. As time permits, I hope to send her/the list lunch, dinner, snack & treat ideas as well. Breakfast: Fruit: bananas, grapefruit, pears, etc. Gerber Pear Juice or Apple juice (this is how I get supplements down) Milk: Dari-free (can be ordered at MissRobens.com), Pacific Rice Milk (the gfcfdiet.com list has a list of a number of milk substitutes that could be found @ a health food store....in fact, I get Pacific at Winco) But you have to be careful, because not all of the Rice Milk's are okay. I also use Pacific Rice VANILLA Almond Milk (the regular contains gluten) and sometimes Soy milk (I try to rotate milks and foods a little because I am worried about developing food allergies) Homemade hashbrowns (I am now only using high quality oils: Most of the ones that I use are Hain's Olive Oil, Sunflower Oil, Safflower Oil and some Canola) Toast: Our favorite Bread is Food for Life Rice Bread. I buy my health food store out everytime I go in and then store it in my freezer. We top it with Coconut Butter (which I order from MissRobens.com (This is my all-time favorite place to order...get a catalog) and a little cinnamon sugar *We have 2 toasters in our house, one for gluten and casein free, the other for gluten & casein to avoid any cross-contamination (We also have the kitchen divided, but that's a different story) Waffles: Van's Wheat Free Waflles (website www.vansintl.com). I find these at a very reasonable price at Fred Meyers. Be careful...they make gluten containing waffles as well. We top with a little Log Cabin Syrup. Hot Rice Cereal: From Nabisco. We top with a little cinnamon sugar (Could add raisins....I always buy the small packages of raisins because they supposedly dust the large boxes with flour to keep them from sticking...the small packages are great for on the go as well) Crepes: The big hit at our house are the crepes I make out of sorghum flour. (Let me know if you want the recipe). I order my sorghum at twinvalleymills.com . We fill them with coconut butter and a little cinnamon sugar and my boys down them. Eggs Bacon: Many bacons are okay (check the gfcfdiet.com list), but I am avoiding nitrates. I order our favorite bacon from applegatefarms.com (We also love their antibiotic free turkey for sandwiches and pepperoni....yes this diet can become very expensive...ugh!) We have also ordered Shelton's bacon from Fred Meyer...it's okay. Sausage: My son likes Shelton's sausage which I order from Fred Meyers Cereal: I do not know of any commercial cereals that are acceptable (Rice Krispies contain malt which is not gfcf). I order Barbara's Rice Krispies (great for making rice krispy treats that taste normal...I'll send you this " recipe " on my treats post) from Fred Meyer and can buy Health Valley Rice Crunch 'ems there.
