Carole,

At CPMC you go through a very long appointment...about an hour and

they ask you everything! Then when you are admitted the day of

surgery, they ask you each and every one of those damn questions

again. Then the anesthesiologist..damn i hate typing that word!

asks you half of them over again. I guess its a good thing as opposed

to your hospital.

I would sure as heck make sure that they know anything and everything

you feel is important, even if you have to call them and insist they

write it down. The most important things for them to know are any

problems you have had with any prior surgeries such as bleeding,

problems with pain meds, problems with the anesthesia, drug

allergies...and they should be aware of any drugs you are currently

taking as well as any fears you have.

Damn Carole, it just seems that each and every doctor, and each and

every hospital seems to have its own haphazard way of doing things.

But don't be shy and make sure they are ready to deal with anything

you have going on including sleep apnea. If you have a CPAP ask them

when you should bring it, and how they will protect it for you until

you need it in the recovery room.

The one thing I hated about my hospital is that I got there 3 hours

early...(pretty short wait for them) and they would not give me any

thing for nerves until the anesth...guy met with me...oh, which he

did about 10 minutes before surgery....which was a little too darn

late! I love that Dr. K has something waiting for his patients if

they need it!

Hugs,

Theresa
