Guest guest
Why did they remove it to begin with? I told my provider that she didn't need to do anything with it, he wears it all day long. I told her only to remove it if he needed some kind of care that she couldn't give with the helmet on...aka and emergency. She is able to change his clothes with it on if she needs to, so she never takes it off. She jokes that she hasn't seen his head in 6 weeks! Anyway, I would just tell them not to touch it. > > I have no idea how long it was like this but the DOC Band had been cinched down about an inch past where it normally settles onto her head. When I took the helmet off I could trace the entire outline of the helmet around her head as a dent in the skin and the entire area turned pinkish like the blood was returning the surface. I called yesterday after getting home (and saw how tight the band was) to see who was the last to care for my daughter's helmet but no one would fess up to it. After 4 hours the dents were not so deep and the pink had only faded to half of it's original color so I left the helmet off for the night and everything looked normal this morning. > > (1) How long should it have taken for these marks to go away? It seems to me that because the marks took so long to fade then the helmet must have been cinched down for quite some time. > > and (2)What can I do to make the daycare providers realize how important it is to care for the helmet correctly? I've given hand written instructions, the papers from Cranial Technologies, wrote on her daily care sheet every day for two weeks (we usually have the same three ladies) and also have written abbreviated instructions on my daughter's general care sheet with mention of the more detailed information in my daughter's cubby. I thought I was going overboard with paranoia in all the places where I described her helmet care but it seems like no one paid any attention to it. >
Guest guest
The helmet must be removed to do the exercises for tort and she needs to do those with at least every diaper change and her physical therapist works with her for 30-60 minutes once a week. Also, most of her clothes don't fit over the helmet. I usually send her in button up outfits but she usually goes through 2-3 outfits while at daycare and I just don't have enough clothes that do fit over the helmet. She's also a sweater and so they dry her head off every time they take the helmet off. > > > > I have no idea how long it was like this but the DOC Band had been cinched down about an inch past where it normally settles onto her head. Guest guest
Hi , Is there any way for you to physically show the 3 providers how to put the band on properly? And emphasize that the strap doesn't have to be tightened, just flipped over? It might seem like you are paranoid to them, but my son still has a faint line on his forehead a year later and I would hate that to happen to your daughter. Guest guest
I did spend the first three days driving back and forth from work to do the checks as she first adjusted to the band. The first day the providers watched me and day 2 and 3, I watched them put it on so I know that these providers know how to care for her helmet. They mentioned Friday afternoon that Cranial Technologies had called about the issue but they didn't tell me what all was said. I had called CT first thing Friday morning because I was so upset about how long the marks took to fade and they had asked for the daycare's information. But really they could only reiterate what I had already told the daycare, but maybe because it was directly from the clinic it won't happen again. > > > > > > > > I have no idea how long it was like this but the DOC Band had been cinched down about an inch past where it normally settles onto her head.
