Guest guest
During my weekend I had some time to reflect and thought I would share my thoughts. As I sat on a bench, listening to the breeze gently blow the leaves on the trees above my head I became aware for the first time in months of the quietness that surrounded me. I had forgotten what it was like to feel the wind on my shoulders, the sounds of birds chattering and dogs barking in the distance. It was an amazing feeling to let my mind wander, with no particular thoughts of discontent of any kind. It was also amazing to realize that this quietness and peacefulness was what I was missing in my daily living. We become so accustomed to the buzzing of a computer, the hammering of new homes, the screeching of tires turning corners, the honking of horns, the loud engine of a tractor mowing the lawn and weed eaters chomping on ragweed. It was as if time was standing still. It was as if GOD was allowing me the chance to see nature in its purest form, the smells of boxwood, the crunching of leaves underneath my feet, and the delicate hum of a hummingbird. This is what I am missing. Today, as my children are joyfully and exuberantly playing with their toys, as my neighbor hauls out his tractor, or the bulldozers yet dig another road for a new home - I'm able to deal with these noises much better. As I watch my youngest take only two bites of salami and cream cheese for lunch, or my oldest whine because he wants water instead of milk.......I'm able to deal with their behaviors much better. The peacefulness that still resides within helps me cope with the goings on of yet another typical day. And, I'm a much better person because of it. Let's remember to be good to ourselves. Let's remember to put aside our worries, our fears, our concerns, our daily issues to take care of ourselves. Let's remember to enjoy the beauty and calmness of nature and seek the peace that will all help us deal with our daily lives. I'm going to remember and cherish each of those peacefull moments - no matter how brief - and if not, hopefully someone will remind me! - H
