Manda,

My son has bilateral cf and we went through about 6 months of casting,

shoes, and back into casting with a doctor who wasn't Ponseti trained. I

never could see much progress and it was obvious that his feet were not

corrected. We were finally sent to another doctor who scheduled him for

surgery.

While researching the surgery I came upon this group of wonderful people who

told me to give the Ponseti method a try before subjecting my son to

surgery. I found a doctor 4 hours away in another state and had to wait a

month to get in to see him. I have never regretted it! After the first cast

came off I could see definite improvement in my son's feet, something I had

never seen with the previous doctor. After 6 casts and a tenotomy his feet

were perfect. It's been 18 months now and he runs like the wind, and you'd

never know by looking at his feet that there was ever anything wrong with

them.

We're going for our check up on Wednesday I'll post an update when we get

back.

Subject: Just started Ponseti method and need reassurance

Hi

We have a six month old son who has moderate left foot talipes. We

were about to undertake full release surgery when on seeking a second

opinion we were recommended the Ponseti method of treatment. What a

wonderful surprise to find out there is an alternative way.

We are now starting the Ponseti method through a new Ortho and physio.

I'd really like to hear from parents that have been through this method

of treatment and what the results were like.

Much appreciated

manda
