Guest guest
Hi Tammy, Yes periactin can cause moodiness. That is why it is recommended that you slowly start the child on it. Basically, you start at 1/2 the evening dose for a week. Then the whole evening dose for a week. Then add 1/2 the morning dose for a week and then the whole morning dose. That means it takes 4 weeks before you a giving the entire does. As for the sleepiness, periactin is an antihistimine. They make mose people sleepy. By following the above schedule, it will give your son's body time to adjust. Good luck, Judith, Steve, (RSS) and (non RSS) 5 year old twins PS I can't believe I am sending posts at 6 am on a Sunday FROM WORK
Guest guest
Hi. Yes, Periactin can do all those things unfortunatly. My non RSS son Skye is also on it (just turned 7) because he also barely ate no matter what. He has OCD, extreme anxiety, Aspergers and is also meets all the ADHD tests and has major sensory issues orally and others...anyways, we were fortunate or maybe unfortunate (he needs to calm down) not to have the side affects with him. It's like he doesn't even notice it except he now eats! I am sorry your son is getting really grumpy and tired from it. The docs were actually surprised that it wasn't affecting my son that way at all. I have to say it did not work at all for my RSS daughter Autumn, for weight gain but for my son Skye it is the miracle we have needed for years. He started weighing 35.5 in morning..36 evening weight and now 3 months later is about 42 lbs and doing much better! He just hit the charts for 5th% for weight (still not for height though) He also has sensory issues that prevented him from eating and constant stomach pain, no cause found except for maybe extreme sensitivity or anxiety...until now he is saying he keeps getting a little throw up in his throat and swallows it they said sounds like reflux. Anyways, good luck, our doc said the side affects can wear off after the body gets used to it. mom to Autumn RSS, Skye 7, Ocean 3, Summer 2 mos > Is there anyone that knows if periactin can make you really tired and > extremely grumpy.
