Many places do not know Markell makes a 0000, previously the 000 was the smallest size available but not anymore. And while it's great he hasn't relapsed, I wouldn't trust that he won't without the shoes. Your best bet is to cut the hole and put them back on him. Nothing to bother the sore, and he is assured to maintain his correction. These sores take a long time to heal, and without the hole the pressure of the shoe just being there (even if it's fitting properly) may make it come back. The hole is a good thing, a nice window plus healing... you can't go wrong. LEt me know if you need help with cutting the hole, it's really not a big deal and does not affect the integrity of the shoes in any way. Promise. >Are the shoes the same as the Ponseti? Order them directly from MD Orthopaedics and don't EVEN go to the orthotic supply place. They are $365 last I heard, with shipping and impression kits. NOT $1100, jeez!! The shoes *are* the Ponseti Shoes. They actually say *Ponseti* on the clamp that holds the bar together. Made by . Thus the name confusion. We like to call them Ponseti s or PM for short :~} Kori >Thanks again, > >-Andi > > > > > > > > My 2 month old son has a clubfoot, and has now been wearing the > > Markell shoes for a little over 2 weeks. Guest guest
The shoes are also called the Ponseti FAB, which is actually what calls them. If insurance will pay for them, it might be cheaper to go through an ortho supply place like Hanger. If you are paying for them yourself, then order them directly from and they are $382. Hanger does a terrible upcharge on the shoes. If you have insurance, just call and inquire about your benefits. has the s and they are so much easier for parents to use and more comfortable for the baby. Good luck! Carol and Update to: HELP! Markell shoes and a heel blister that is causing great pain First, thank you all for your great responses! It's so nice to hear from others that have gone through this. We did take him to the dr on Tuesday, and despite the lack-of-shoes, Colin does NOT need any additonal casts. The dr said he could go a little longer without them, in order to give the heel a chance to finish healing. He is in the smallest of Markells, but then the dr mentioned the Ponseti shoes which might be easier. Are the shoes the same as the Ponseti? The Markells weren't too horribly expensive, but the orthopedic supply place is asking $1100 for the other shoes. This just seems like a lot!
