Guest guest
Hey I am pretty new to all of this and am starting to get the hang of this Yahoo thing. I read the messages all the time and I have learned so much from everyone already, but now I have a question and I need some of your expertise out there to give me some ideas. We still haven't confirmed Josiah's hypoglycemia although we are pretty convinced that he has it (sweaty, waking up lots in the night to eat - before he got his ng tube - grumpy and lethargic when hungry. The GI doc is also convinced that he has it but is leaving it up to the endo doc to figure it all out when we go in a week and a half. So with that being said I am wondering if there is a relationship between low blood sugar and low oxygen saturation? Josiah was born prematurely at 29 weeks and has lots of lung issues, chronic asthma and breathing difficulties when he has a cold. He is on tons of puffers when he is sick and he usually ends up in hospital on oxygen when he is really sick. He had his blood sugar tested in hospital because he was very lethargic and sweaty and we are trying to catch him with a low sugar....but when it was tested it was in the normal range 5.2 (canadian levels are normal at 4 - 8) at the same time his oxygen level was 92% which was low and concerning with him in a healthy state....however when we gave him a drink of apple juice he totally perked up within 10-15 minutes and his oxygen was back to 100%. Then today (he has a bad cold now) he was hungry and I sat down to give him his bolus feed (and I had just given him his puffers 45 minutes before and his breathing should have been at his best), but he was totally huffing and puffing and coughing and I was considering taking him to the hospital and about 20 - 25 minutes after I gave him his bolus feed his breathing returned to normal......am I crazy or is there a relationship there.....sorry it is so long but I didn't want to just pose a question without giving some background to explain the situation...I would love to hear from all of you out there to give me some advice on this. Thanks, R mom to Josiah 28 months RSS, NG tube
