Guest guest
, My son does not see Dr Mack, but he is being treated at a Shriner's hospital (in Sacramento, CA) so I can tell you a little about how they work. Shriners will accept any child who is affected by a condition that they treat regardless of income. There is an application that needs to be filled out, but many times you can do this over the phone. They'll ask you for insurance information. This is only for their records--they will not attempt to charge your insurance. They do not have a patient billing department. Everything--including bars, shoes, xrays--is provided entirely free of charge. You'll just need to make sure you insist on seeing Dr Mack and not one of the other doctors. My children (only one has clubfoot, but the other goes to checkups with us) love going for visits to the hospital. Everything is child-centered and we always leave with new stuffed animals, books, stickers... It varies from place to place, but in our case, we were matched with a Shriner in our town who reimburses what we spend on gas traveling to and from the hospital (we are some 300 miles away and these are the closest Ponseti practioners). Their generosity is beyond astounding. I know that at our Shriner's, the doctors are happy to consult with parents before their child is born. The main Shriners website is at: http://www.shrinershq.org/Hospitals/_Hospitals_for_Children/ Information about the Springfield Shriners is at: http://www.shrinershq.org/Hospitals/Springfield/ Good luck! I had given up on Dr. Mack because I really was not able to get information. I also thought Shriner's would be hard to get into.....did you have to apply? We live in between Springfield and NYC. Literally, takes the exact amount of time to get to both which is why we researched docs in both. We have a consultation set up with Dr. Von Bosse in NYC in a couple of weeks because he takes my insurance. He sounds great, but the city is hard to travel to whereas Shriners is a much easier commute. Does Shriners take insurance? Do you have a number I can contact his office directly? I don't think it can hurt to meet with more than one doc. Ponseti recommends Dr. Mack??? Does he adhere to the strict Ponsetti method? I am so happy that 's feet are perfect! What a wonderful story and you have truly helped us. - --------------------------------- Yahoo! Music Unlimited - Access over 1 million songs.Try it free. Guest guest
Naomi, Thank you. The information is so helpful! It sounds as if no one gets turned away. I will have to make some phone calls.
