Sitting on knee in Dennis Brown shoes

Caleb is 9 months and wears the Dennis Brown shoes about 22 hours a

day. Within the last few weeks, he's learned to push himself up from

his tummy, and sit on his knees. It's quite adorable and I think it

allows him to be more independent. But everyone who sees him sit like

that gets so concerned that it might hurt him--which obviously it

doesn't because he smiles away while sitting like that. However, one

person told me that the way Caleb sits on his knees with the bar on

could cause him to be bow legged. Is that true? Or did anyone else's

children sit on their knees with the bar on and have problems later

on? I don't think it's a problem, but just wondering....

Caleb just started crawling last week with the bar on and off too

(during his short break each day of course!) :)

Thanks!

Don't ya just love all the " helpful " advice from people who are not

orthopedic club foot experts nor have they ever had a child in a brace for

clubfoot? NOT!!! LOL

Yay for crawling! Every milestone seems so precious with because of

all we have been through. It is so great to see her do everything that

other babies do...and not delayed, either.

, at 8 months, does the exact same thing by sitting on her knees with

her legs behind her, in a " W sit " . While it looks uncomfortable, it is

obviously comfortable for her, and your son, as they both continue to do it.

I let her move around in whatever way is comfortable for her. That is a

very common way to sit with a brace on, I would think, and there is no

research bearing out bow legs in kids who have worn the brace so I wouldn't

worry about it at all.
