Guest guest
Wow! That hurricane has done so much damnage! I watched the disaster on CNN live, I was shocked! A father with a 3 weaks old baby (!!!) going trough closed shops just searching for food. New Orleans just almost dissapeared under the water, it's just horrifying. Right now I'm bussy trying to find somewhere I can donate, the only thing I can do for those people. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you who have to deal with Katrina in any way. A friend of mine, who had taken several of her grandchildren over to Houston (League City) to get them away from the mess in the Biloxi / Gulfport areas ended up spending two nights in the grass at the side of the road because the evacuation was so slow. That's great that you were able to take in family like that. <wry grin> I ended up with a friend's five cats in my spare bedroom because their apartment was a mess, and the hotel her company booked her into wouldn't allow them. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle

Of course she comes too!!! I love telling the story of 's room... God heard a childs heart.. I would have never agreed to paint it just to paint it...We had a one year old and a two year old (my niece's two kids) when we evacuated.. My daughter sang " Victory in Jesus " each night to put the babies to sleep.. SHE is such an example for me.. Yes. One of the most poignant memories I have was, after we got the book store where I was working open again, we had plenty of people in. I remember vividly the father and son who were buying a Golden Lab calendar. I smiled, and said, " Labs are great dogs, " and the boy's face crumpled. His father hastily explained that because hotels would not take a large dog, they'd had to leave theirs behind... and she drowned. We had that experience in 2008. We got to the hotel in Atlanta where we had a reservation, having, at the last minute, brought Shadow and Sunny with us because of Hurricane Gustav. Hotel's attitude was that an evacuation wasn't their problem. They didn't take dogs, under any circumstances. I wrote a letter to the chain after we got home, and advised them that I considered the behavior of their management disgraceful, and that I would make certain that all the pet Forums on the Net that I had contact with knew about it. I never heard back from them... but a few months later, all the hotels in that chain in Atlanta and elsewhere had a new pet policy. As for us: you know true friends are those you can call at 2 am and say, " Help! The hotel won't take the dogs! " and the response is, " Come ahead. The cats will have a fit, but they'll get over it.
