Have any of you gotten disability while you were off work recuperating from

surgery? I have a self-purchased short term disability policy and they tell

me that it doesn't matter that I got laid off, cause that isn't my fault.

Anyway, guess there is not going to be an answer to whether or not they give

it to me till I send in a claim.....but when I bought it, they said they

would pay as long as I was under a Drs care.

Just wanted to know if any of you got it.........other than those CA people

who are so lucky to have the state disability (which I thought was great when

I lived there, even tho I never had to use it). Carole

Carole,

I am on short-term disability right now through my employer (General

Electric). I am sure policies vary from company to company and plan to plan,

but, they are paying me 100% of my base salary while I am on short-term

disability...

I used my short-term disability policy -- no problem. Even though I'm

in CA, I didn't use state disability cause as a self-employed person, I

don't have to pay into it.

I also used my short term disability while I'm off work after surgery. With my

company, it pays me 85% of my normal salary while I'm out. I took 4 weeks off

(haven't gone back yet), but since Dr K's office listed that I need 6 weeks, I

could take longer if I wanted. I should be good at 4 weeks though, but since my

paperwork says 6 weeks, I'll need to get clearance from my PCP before I go back

to work.

Hey Carole!

My company provides its own disability to its employees and yes, I am

collecting disability insurance while I'm recovering. Hopefully,

things will go as smoothly for you.
