Guest guest
If your insurance is good it should be covered. Some insurance doesn't cover no matter what. My daughter was 97% with 4.5 mm asym and our band was covered 100%. Our specialist guidelines were banding at 90% or 10mm of asymmetry. You would meet both those criteria. I hope the banding goes well. Keep us posted. -christine sydney, 5 yrs, starband grad > > Hi all > I was wondering if any of your LO had or have brachycephaly with little plagiocephaly asymetry? If so did your insurance cover the helmet(s) or did you have to appeal. If you decided not to helmet did it get better as the months/years went on. I have tried repositioning my son from months 2 thru now (7 months) also I have always carried him and he spends minimal time in a car seat and he hated the swing. It has only stayed the same. One pediatrician says it will round out by age 3 the other says get the helmet asap. I am at a loss. My LO has a CI of 94% with a cranial vault of 11.4. I am under the impression that he fits into the moderate/severe category. Thanks so much. I am just so nervous about everything as you can see. >
Guest guest
Hi , First, it sounds like my son is similiar in his condition to yours. We tried repositioning as well for 2.5 months with no change. We decided to get the helmet even though he is probably a little more in the mild to medium category. It was a very hard decision, he has had it for a week, and so far, we are happy we did it. He has been totally fine with it and i do think its been a little harder on us. Our insurance, Humana, so far has " preauthorized " it, but as we know, things can change and we still have a deductible to pay. Our peditrician as well said it should round out, but I know first hand some of our friends who did not treat their son, who is 3 now, has a signficant flat spot and asymetry to his head shape. Good news is he has thick curly hair so most likely will not be an issue for him. I am not saying I dont think it can round out, I am just not convinced that it definitely will for all babies. I wish my ped had not told me that at 4 months, because looking back, I probably would have purchased a movement monitor and put him on his tummy to sleep. I know this is against the " back to sleep " campaign so I am not advocating this. I personally would have done it though as one of those motherly decisions we all have to make. Good luck with your decision. I know it can be tough. christi I - In Plagiocephaly , " chubbachunka " <chubbachunka@...> wrote: > > Hi all > I was wondering if any of your LO had or have brachycephaly with little plagiocephaly asymetry? Guest guest
Hi Christi Thanks so much. I also wish I would have known about this also and helmeted sooner. Thank goodness for my new pediatrician. Each pediatrician views it differently so I hope in the future they start to take a more proactive approach and let the parents decide what is best. I hear from a lot of people that it will round out more but I dont want to rely on the 'what if' and I dont want to take the chance of him getting migraines and tmj. My husband and I suffer from both so if we can eliminate the possibility why not. We will find out soon if our insurance will cover it. I am thrilled to hear that your LO is handling it well. I hope my high energy LO doesn't mind it. I purchased one of the angel care monitors. They are great .. We purchased it cause he kept burrying his face in his mattress when he would roll over. Im a worrier so it eases my mind. Keep us updated on his progress. Take care. > > > > Hi all > > I was wondering if any of your LO had or have brachycephaly with little plagiocephaly asymetry?
