I would tell the endo that the pdd is a minor part of Andre's life,

but his size is a major part and that you absolutely want to start him

on GH.

My son is 5. He is also PDD-NOS and has been on GH for 1 1/2

years now.

I would remind the endo of the other health benefits of the GH, ie

muscle mass, etc.

Good luck,

Judith, Steve, (RSS) and (non RSS) 5 year old twins

That endo is grossly misinformed about PDD and other learing

issues. He is saying that you should not use gh because your child

will then get bigger and, if not able to be independent, will be

harder to handle. Obviously this is not the case with your son.

This is a common medical practice with children who are severely

mentally disabled. These kids grow up to be dependent adults and

have to live at home with their parents or at some other type of

facility. Doctors do not recommend gh therapy because the kids grow

up to be larger adults and are harder to handle: getting them up,

dressed, into the car, eating, etc.

It makes me angry to hear of a doctor who is so unknowledgeable or

predjudiced towards a chid with PDD. These kids, even those with

full spectrum autism, can and usually do grow up to be fine,

independent adults.

Hi there! Who can realy decide if Andre could get the

homone or not, because maybe your child is just a

little behind in age and will gradually pick up, the

bigest problem for me is that people tend to treat the

children on the size they are, intelectually ex. as

big as a 7year old but in real life 12 years of age.

So I think that it could help in their emotinal

development. If onley for that why not? Who can decide

on your childs quality of life?

Good luck Elize

Have you ever asked why he throught it would give him a decreased quality

of life? Do you think he was just concerned about whether he could handle

getting the shots? Perhaps you could call MAGIC and ask them about the

best ways to administer shots to PDD-NOS children...

And even though Tim isn't fond of the shots, he quality of life is sooooooo

much better when he gets closer to his peers in size!
