Guest guest
Hi Nan. I moved to Charlotte almost a year ago. I have only been to Dr. Frick once. My daughter (bcf) was 2 when we moved here. She was previously treated by Dr. Herzenberg in Baltimore. It is hard for me to give Dr. Frick a true opinion because had already been through the casting phase, tenotomy, and one year of the s brace. Her treatment was completed and in 'maintenance' phase. Dr. Frick is highly recommended by Dr. Herzenberg and Dr. Ponseti. I want to caution you though, when I went to see him he did state he usually releases the brace from children between the ages of 2 and 3. If you read more into the Ponseti Method and latest relapse results. Dr. Ponseti now recommends to keep the brace on as long as possible, minimum up to age 4 and possibly age 6. Records show an amazing % drop in relapses. Sorry I don't know exact percentages. If you do go to Dr. Frick, ask him his thoughts on the brace release time. As far as following the remainder of the Ponseti Method exactly, I think he does. I don't think Dr. H would recommend him otherwise. Also, in the files section, there is a list of questions to ask your doctor. I would have that list available when you meet him. Let us know how it goes. shyrod868 wrote: Hi everyone Just wandering if anyone lives in nc with a child with b/cf going to Dr. Frick out of Charlotte. Any comments on what you think about him. Have you had any problems with him? Have you noticed that he doesn't go strickly by Dr. Ponseti methods. Thanks Nan --------------------------------- Yahoo! Guest guest
We switched to Dr. Frick from another ortho when we went into the braces. Our son (bcf) wasn't taking the the markell's well, and our other ortho had told us it was either them or back into casts. So we checked around and switched to the 's, and to Dr. Frick after some good recommendations. So we haven't been through casting with him, but we've been impressed with the interactions we've had. He took the time to explain things to us well, at one point pulling out a pen and drawing diagrams on the table paper. He also came at one visit and said he was talking to Dr. Herzenberg in Baltimore and Dr. Herzenberg was recommending xrays to verify dorsiflection. These aren't standard Ponseti protocal, but he asked us if we would mind him taking a couple, just to check out Dr. H's suggestion. We appreciated the fact that he was actively talking to other respected ortho's in club foot treatment and wanting to figure out if something would work better. He also called me himself one time at 8 p.m. because I had called his office with a question (he apologized and said it had been a busy day, and he was just on his way home from work but wanted to return the call). So we've been pleased. We drive 3 hours to see him (we're in Raleigh) rather than go to a closer ortho, if that tells you anything. As for Ponseti protocal, he kept us in the brace at 23/7 for 3 months, and then said we could go down to 14/7 directly. I've heard on this board that a lot of doctors/parents make this transition gradually, but that's the only thing in our experience that might be different (I'm personally not sure what the actual Ponseti protocal here is, I've heard so many different things from different parents and doctors). Feel free to email me if you want any other info. I'll try to help. Tom > > Hi everyone > Just wandering if anyone lives in nc with a child with b/cf going to > Dr. Frick out of Charlotte. Guest guest
Hi, I am in NC and see Dr. Frick as well. We too switched doctors after about the fifth month. The other Ortho office felt like a factory. We have been very pleased with Dr. Frick and would highly recommend him to others in the area. My son is almost a year now and has a minimal time of 12 hours with the shoes on at night. He still wakes up a few times to try to get comfortable. We are actually switching to the " Birkenstock " type shoes, as Dr. Frick calls them, hoping they will be more comfortable. Please email me if you have any more questions.
