Guest guest
How long is the average stay in the hospital after the DS surgery? Were you able to travel home immediately after discharge without a problem?
Guest guest
My surgeon specializes in Laprascopic surgery. He keeps his patients on average 3-4 days. I was in 7 due to some complications. Theresa DS 11-19-01 Dr. Jossart -12#s > How long is the average stay in the hospital after the DS surgery? Guest guest
Becki, You have been in my prayers right along with Shana. I hope that this time you will be able to stay out for a while and that you are able to pick right up with the rehab. Soon we will hear that your new lungs are ready for you. If only I could " share " some of my fat with you, you wouldn't have to worry about the weight loss!!!! LOL mom of 5 with CF and a boy on the way, no CF Hospital Stay Hi Everyone Well, I'm home. Actually, as I was driving home, I knew that I think I made a mistake coming home. My lungs are just not quite right...not that they are ever " right " but it just feels off. But who knows maybe its just my new pitiful baseline. I am scard to see what my PFT's are. I guess I'll find out at Transplant clinic in Florida on the 23rd.Too add to the problem I got soooo sick within 20 mins of coming home b/c of allergies. For some reason about 2 years ago I developed allergies to our pets and to the entire Spring Season...lol. It only happens for about 24-72 hours after I come home from the hospital but thats it. Unless its March through april and the trees are blooming thats another story all together.... It actually all started( the pet allergies and hay fever) in the Spring time after I got that dang aspergillus 2 years ago. The conclusion I have come too is that b/c I am in the clean sterile environment of the hospital for 2 weeks at a time then come home (to an unvacumned house usually) my body needs those 48hrs to reacclimate itself to the dog and cat. After that Im fine no problems. But until then my eyes and nose run endlessly...not sure if its just me or anyone one else who has this trouble. While I was in I was on the maturnity unit. I kept up my floor exercises with the weights PT brought me and the theraband. I also walked 20-30 mins every night around midnight. Its quite then and its also the newborn vital and bathtime so baby after baby gets wheeled around to get their evening vitals and their baths...The nurses would delay taking them back to play with them and I got to rub there cheeks and little hands....there was evenb a set of triplets up there and WOW did they have some lungs on them. Its weird some babies have to learn the art of screaming bloody murder while others have it down pat immediately...lol My niece who's 5 months now took about a month or 2 too actually learn to scream...she now has no problem screaming...lol...she's quite good at it actually. Some of those kids were sooooooooooo ticked when they came back to the unit but then again I'd be P_ _ _ ed too if I was sound asleep and someone stuck a thermometer up my rearend. Anyways...I felt for the parents. They had this sweetly sleeping infant and then a nurse came and took them for a " bath " then 30 minutes to an hour later, they brought back this squalling red faced newborn. Anyways....my sis and bro inlaw and niece ( she is just too cute ) along with my mom came yesterday and took me out to dinner. We went to this awsome Irish pub, my sis's hubby is 100 % Irish so I thought he'd like it. Its got the neatest atmosphere in the old industrial part of Raleigh... Anyways..I ate a little but my stomach is sooo shrunken I didn't even finish half of it. But it was a great change from my yogart and oranges that I ate for 2 weeks straight and nothing else...lol Anyways...I will be right back in rehab tomarrow and looking forward to going and seeing everyone. I just hope Im not gonna end up in the hospital soon. The doc gave me three choices 1. Get Bronched 2. Go Home on Fortaz for another 10 days 3. Stay Then said if it were him he'd go home since I wasn't probably going to improove much. OF course I wanted to go home. I was starting to go stir crazy but something in the back of my mind was saying " Don't Go or you'll regret it " . That voice is still there but I'm hoping I'll start to feel better over the next week. I also lost a lot of weight and even moire inches. My dang pants won't stay up...lol I am anxiously waiting for updates on Shana. She's such a fighter. I know she'll be ok....I was so happy she got her lungs I started calling people up to pray for her. I was so worried about her last night I couldn't sleep. I will just continue to pray and send good vibes her way. Anyways....I have to take a nap. I'll write more later Becki Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. Listed for Lungs 1/14/04 at Mayo Clinic ville,Fla.
