Guest guest
Ian is having an ultrasound tomorrow morning. His previous x-ray with the Upper GI study showed preliminary results of a narrowing of the duodenal sweep in the 2nd portion regional to the ampulla, without obstruction, no associated ulceration or inflammation. In addition there was no malrotation. Have you or anyone else ever heard of this narrowing before with our RSS children? Only reason I'm asking is because of the malrotation - I wondered if there was a possible correlation - even though Ian does not exhibit malrotation. We will also be looking for the possibility of something pushing on the intestine; i.e, a tumor or possibly an organ (maybe the appendix is in the wrong place). Research I conducted on the internet (silly me looking for answers) led me to believe that many infants are prone to this narrowing and typically have surgery once they are born. Let's keep our fingers crossed it's nothing - I'm not up for surgery. got in trouble at preschool today - he hasn't even been there for 2 weeks yet. He wouldn't listen, ran out the door of the building and received a time-out! Guess I need to pull back on the reigns a bit.....oh brother. - H
Guest guest
, I have not heard of this condition in RSS kids in particular, but you never know - there is always something new popping up. But it would make sense. If there is a narrowing, then there could be a delay in emptying. Oh, it's late and I'm not thinking clearly..... I know that the GI docs have said something about Max's duodenum being narrow, but he had malrotation. And then he needed the triple procedure a little over two years ago. I wish you luck with the ultrasound. I hope they don't find anything that has to be corrected surgically. Then again, if they do and it will help, so be it. I just hate surgery, though. It's so hard to turn our kids over to another person who literally holds their lives in their hands. And, thank you, you have reminded me that I need to call Max's GI tomorrow. Max is getting hiccups again whenever he eats and then some. I don't know if you were on the listserve when we went through this before, but at one point it was so bad they would go on for hours. Dr. H. recommended a scopalamine patch, the kind they use for seasickness. It worked! I'd hate to have to go that route again because Max hated it when people asked what it was, but if we must, we must. There always seems to be something. Guest guest
Hi, Sad note - scopalomine is off the market! I freaked when I went for a refill - I was diagnosed with motion sickness at age 3 months (strong family history - thanks to dad and his family - and they are career FISHERMAN who go on boats daily!) and this took enough of the edge off so that I wasn't sick the entire flight. , mom to 5 and Emerence 2.5 22 lbs and 32 " > , > > I have not heard of this condition in RSS kids in particular, but > you never know - there is always something new popping up. Guest guest
Thanks Jodi. I'm glad he's having the ultrasound anyway - just because I like to get another view of things. You know - Ian gets hiccups alot too! Poor Max. Do they know why he gets them so much?? - H > , > > I have not heard of this condition in RSS kids in particular, but > you never know - there is always something new popping up.
