Guest guest
I would call Jodi RIGHT AWAY and have her give you the er protocol for this. She did this for me years ago and now I have a little less arguing in the ER. We just whip it out, have our ped. call it in " formally " and we all are set to go. Did they test ketones in blood? Does she have a tube? Keep giving her sprite which has carbs, and gatorade if she will not drink pedialyte. Gatorade also has popscicles now with thte electrolytes. We keep a supply in our closets at all times. I would go back and INSIST or call Dr. H AGAIN or go to another er. jamtorrss wrote:I had to take Tori to the ER today. She went to summer school this morning and was fine her teacher called around 11 am and said Tori had been crying and fussy all morning and said that she did not feel good so I had go get her and bring her to me I was in town alreay. She had vomited 5x with 2 hrs and when I got her she did 2 more times, she was real tired and weak I called her ped and she said to take her to the ER so I did she called and said to out her on IV fluids we sat there for 2 hrs before they did and they drew blood pricked her finger cked her temp. I called to DR H office they had already left for the day so I paged the on call DR Macrdo she called me back then spoke to the ER Dr. they said because her bllod work and elecrolites were good that she could go home she had not eat anything all day and while in the hospital she was not responding. I got scared I thought DR H said if there sick they need to be admitted until eating again. Well we are home she is still passing keytones and running a fever she did eat some soup But they told me that it was just a virus. I do not agree with them because it hit her so fast and she seems to be fine now.
Guest guest
This is Jodi Z. You have to take Tori back to that ER and insist that she be admitted if she is spilling ketones. Anything above a trace, especially at moderate to large, is NOT acceptable and very dangerous. This means that her glycogen stores, her sources of food for the brain, are used up and she is using muscle for food. (Thus the ketones, or protein, in the urine.) She needs to be on continuous IV fluids, preferable with D10, and on gut rest until she stops vomiting and the ketones are gone. When she feels she can eat, you have to go slowly. Start with clear liquids and jello. As she increases her intake, the IV can be lowered, but should not be stopped. Then, after a few hours, or however long it takes (it usually takes Max a couple of days, but he's an exception), she can advance to soft foods and then onto regular food. Once she is tolerating her foods, then she can be disconnected from the IV, but must be monitored to make sure she can maintain the negative ketones. Only then should she go home. It could be a 2 day hospital stay, or it could be several days. We are experts at this. Max is hospitalized for this at least twice a year now and the people at the hospital just leave it up to me, for the most part. Even Max knows the protocol, so if I'm not there, he is learning to speak up and tell the doctors himself. All those residents have to do is look at his huge file and see that the routine is the same each time. Sometimes someone new decides to act like " God " and try something different, but that person risks my anger and rage, so that is shortlived on his/her part. Please do not fool around with Tori. Speak up for her and don't let those ER doctors intimidate you. She needs the IV fluids and gut rest. I don't care if the electrolytes come back okay. If she has ketones, she is in need of the special care that only a hospital can provide. I do hope that by the time you read this Tori is feeling better. If not, then get your fighting gloves on and go for it! Jodi Z

Guest guest
I took Tori to the allergist this morning, the patch test come back normal. Then I took her to school and spoke with her teacher she said what all you said to give it awhile she will just keep letting her know the boundries and who's the teacher. I am ok with that and told her to make sure Tori looks her in the eye when she is trying to get her to pay attention. When we were in Dr.H's in July she would grab tori by her cheeks and look her in the eye when tori would not listen eric and I have been doing since and it seeems to help. Well thats all for now. Thanks allot for everyones input it really does help to be able to talk with you all.
