Guest guest
My surgeon, Dr , has also auit doing the DS after 6 successful Ds laproscopic surgeries. Generally her feelings are that the tissue around the pylorus is so fragile it's difficult to suture it without fear of damage, and that the DS has some (minimal) statical problems concerning pancreatitis. Dr held a meting (which I did not attend) to explain the differences between the 2 surgeries and from what others who did go say the DGB is a not quite as good alternative (from the patients point of vies) but is better than the rny. There does not seem to be dumping involved, one of our biggest fears, however patients who have had the DGB also say they eat much more than DS patients do. I think it's disturbing to read about doctors who have advertised and offered this surgery and who now have changed their minds. OK, I understand that there are problems. We all know, going into WLS that we fact potential problems and that many of us are seriously critical surgery patients. So long as we do all the research we can, I would hope the doc of choice serves us better than deciding to change the scope of surgery just before it occurs. This is what happened to LeeAnne, Dr s last DS patient...4 days prior to her scheduled DS, said " I want to do the Scoparino version of the DGB " . At first LeeAnne agreed, feeling that the doctor knew best, but then, after thinking about it, she decided she wanted the DS that she had researched. Paterson agreed to do this surgery one final time. I don't understand her reasoning, as none of the 6 surgery patients had major surgery issue problems post op. Now the 6 of us are sort of left out in right field, with no support group from our doctor that addresses our particular surgery. We do, however, go to another surgeons support group. I wish there was an abstract that I could fine (and I have looked) or a paper that details the specifics between the Hess DS and the Scoparino DGB. If anyone knows of one, I'l be most interested. Blessed be crone elle
