Tracey,

I am sorry your Dr changed your surgery on you. But hopefully you will do

great with the BPD. I am almost 3 months post-op and just wanted to tell you

I had nausea for most of the for almost 6 weeks. Then it would go 3 -4 days

with no nausea, then a day of feeling sick. Then maybe 5 -6 days of none.

For the last 3 weeks, I have only had 1 day I did not feel so hot. So it has

definitely gotten better. My nausea started in the hospital too. I thought

it would never go away, but for the most part it has. So hang in there, just

like with your car, things will improve.

Hugs,

Sheri

Dear ,

I'm so sorry about how the surgery went with the last minute change.

You have to be so disappointed! I would take it up with the doctor (like why

would you want to pay for something that he didn't do as expected).

I once was supposed to have a hysterectomy, but the doctor decided to

" spare me " and took out the ovarian tumor, although he knew I was having some

pretty severe symptoms (that BTW) continued after the oophorectomy. I had to

have the hysterectomy 5 months later. I was so angry.

I think what the doctor did was quite wrong and very bad timing. I am

so sorry that it happened that way.

I'm sure that the surgery symptoms will ease given time. I know from

other surgeries that the nausea goes away. Enjoy your ice chips and don't

push the eating too soon. That goes for any abdominal surgery. Time is a

great healer.

I hope to hear you are doing well soon. Meanwhile know my heart goes

out to you regarding your doctor's decision. Please let us know what you

decide to say to him, after you are feeling better. Take care of yourself.

Ann

Tracey,

I'm sorry Dr Fielding didn't respect your wishes and agreement and do the DS as

promised instead of waiting until just before your surgery to get you to agree

to the BPD. Make sure you are taking Prilosec or Nexium for acid reduction as

many times it is just the excess acid in your smaller stomach that is making you

nauseous. You should do well with the BPD as long as you make sure you take your

supplements and do follow-up bloodwork. Regardless of whether or not you had the

DS, we would like you to stay on the list. Sharon, who also had the BPD 10 yrs

ago and is now running trialthons is also a member and maybe a valuable resource

to you. I do also recommend joining that BPD list someone else mentioned in

addition to this list, just in case there are BPD specific situations you may

encounter. Sharon was also anemic for a long time after surgery, but I don't

believe they had proper follow-up and aftercare back then. As long as you get

your bloodwork done routinely, you should be okay. I would also suggest maybe

limiting sugar, etc for a while as you don't want to get dumping syndrome. Keep

in mind though, dumping syndrome doesn't always occur and usually seems to go

away for the most part with time, much to the dismay of some RNY'ers who think

dumping is a good thing.

I'm glad you came through the surgery well!

*hugs*

I am so sorry to hear about your surgery. The same thing happened to a

friend of mine and she had trouble the first 5 to 6 weeks but is doing great

now. I think that this Dr. played on your emotions to tell you he was only

going to do the BPD. There are Drs. that can do the second part I am sure.

You are welcome on this list and I for one would really get on this Dr.s case

when you are feeling better. The nwerve that he waited until your were in

the hospital ready for surgery. I wish you luck. Ellen(Pam
