Guest guest
Two things added up to create the problem: On the 4th night I dressed her too warmly. She sweat too much which caused infections PLUS she has a bald spot on her back of head from moving in her crib. Several of the hair follicles got infected which caused the worse (staph) infection and the abscess. It's a catch 22 because I need her to grow the hair back but until she gets the helmet on or sleeps in a position other than back (which is why we need helmet in first place) the hair will stay rubbed off. As long as that hair is short those follicles will be at risk. I feel like we should give another try...my hubby got really scared by the infection and his concern for that is trumping need for helmet. Has anyone ever heard of brachy (Josie is 92%) getting better on own? I know that it is the filling out of her back of head (mildly flat) which will improve that %. TOUGH CALL! HELP!Plagiocephaly Date: Monday, March 22, 2010, 4:09 AM do you have an idea of what caused the infection? It isn't very common, and perhaps if you were more careful there won't be any risk of it happening again. My daughter never had problems, but of course all babies are different. If your baby is sweater you would need to take that into account and dress her lighter and wipe her down more. Also do skin checks more. If her head is particularly sensitive that might be a reason to stop. However I know that now that my daughter is 4 yrs old I still notice her imperfect head. To be honest I would feel quite guilty about it if I hadn't banded her. She went from about 96% to 85%.-christinesydney, 4 yrs, starband grad>> My baby got heat rash/yeast infection on 3rd day with band that turned into a staph infection on back of head -- an abcess the size of a golf ball.> > fortunately we caught infection in time and got antiB's into her BUT staph infection (partic on head) could be very dangerous.> > Should we continue with band? Guest guest
THan ks. Found out last night that Josie's infection is MRSA. THanks to drainage (not antiB's) it is almost gone, but with such a serious infection we will not put the band back on -- in fact even if we wanted to use the band we got it is now infected and the doc said (literally this time) it has to be pitched. This might all be God's way of saying " I will handle this." From: christineashok <christineashok@...>Subject: Re: STAPH INFECTION/ABCESS should we continue band? HELP!Plagiocephaly Date: Tuesday, March 23, 2010, 3:27 AM brachy can improve on its own, but you have no way to know if it will for you. As your child spends less time on her head it will round somewhat in the back. However it generally will grow all over, so the proportion may not change (extra width and/or height remain). My daughter hasn't really improved since her graduation, although she's grown a lot. On the other hand I have seen posts about babies with post band improvement. Not that many parents on this group stay if they decide not to band, so I don't know how much improvement people get without banding. However there is another group for "Older plagio" (olderplag I think). You might post a question about brachy there. People do alternative treatments too such as cranial sacral therapy or seeing an osteopath. However I admit to being skeptical of these, and as far as I know there aren't good studies to say they work. There are parents who think they help, but I generally would only recommend trying them in addition to banding if possible.-christinesydney, 4 yrs, starband grad> >> > My baby got heat rash/yeast infection on 3rd day with band that turned into a staph infection on back of head -- an abcess the size of a golf ball.> > > > fortunately we caught infection in time and got antiB's into her BUT staph infection (partic on head) could be very dangerous.> > > > Should we continue with band? Guest guest
What is MRSA? And what causes it? Re: STAPH INFECTION/ABCESS should we continue band?
