Guest guest
Ok, everyone..............knock yourself out............try *reading* what this woman said in response to my telling her she might want to check out the DS. This is how this whole thing started (and also because graydowney thought I was terrible to be critical of the RNY). WHERE in this email does it say that I criticize people who only know about the RNY and have no way of knowing about the DS? I think if you READ this you will see, this woman KNEW about DS and CHOSE RNY *because* she WANTED to DUMP! Date: Sat Nov 24, 2001 3:14 pm Subject: believe it or not! I am on a list that is primarily RNY people. There are a few who mention that they are new to the list or still waiting for ins approval or a date. To those, if I think they are not immediately ready for surgery, or have already had it, I send links about DS, with a quick note saying " you might want to check this out " just in case they haven't already heard of it, and I always say " good luck no matter what you decide. " Well, here is a portion of a return email I got back..........and this is not the first time I have had this reaction from people. It *amazes* me that some people *want* rny so they can *suffer*. I just don't *get it!* I guess they really bought into the fact that their over-weight is a result of their *relationship* to food and their *badness*. They KNOW they are getting a " tool " and not a " fix " for their problem and they are signing up for *dieting* the rest of their lives......I just cannot imagine it. They also post a lot about starting to *gain* and having to *diet* and *watch* what they eat more closely....I have seen posts about meat tenderizer and even papaya tablets to help with the clogging of the stomah. What gives with these people??? I guess misery loves company and they like being members of the " misery club " where they can commisserate with each other about not eating raw fruits and veggies, etc. Anyway, just goes to show you some people actually *choose* to get the RNY to suffer!!!!!!! here is a portion of the email I got back........ " I have been looking into WSL for several months now, and I have read quite a bit about both the RNY and the DS procedures. While certainly I want the insurance to pay for the surgery, that has not been my primary reason for my decision to select the RNY procedure. For me, I WANT something that will change my relationship with food and how I eat. I am hoping that I will respond to too many sugar grams or too much fat with severe dumping. I don't want to eat those things anymore, but I need some help to stop. I think each person goes into the WLS with different needs and goals. I also think there are pros and cons of each procedure. The trick is matching up our own needs and goals with a surgery's benefits and drawbacks for the best " fit " so to speak. I think that is what I have done for myself and I trust that is what you have done, too. " Amazing, isn't it? Carole
