I started my 2 year old autistic son on the diet last Friday. On the

3rd day he had his 1st solid stool ever! His is not only looking in

my eyes but turning my head with his 2 hands so he can stare at me

face to face. Instead of his board books being another toy to

manipulate he is actually turning each page and studying the pictures

before going on. He also is pointing for the first time. He points

to the family photo on the shelf. When I take it down and put it in

front of him I name each family member. While I name each one (there

are 6 of us) his eyes focus on that person in the picture. I can't

wait for him to finally talk.

Now for my question. I am having difficulty trying to figure out

what are safe foods. By reading some of the posts I am just getting

more confused. Appearantely reading labels is not enough. Have you

all really sent letters out to every food manufacturer to verify it

is safe? Is it possible to e-mail? What do you ask? How can you

trust the answer you get is by someone that knows what they are

talking about? In the past I have sent e-mails to several fast-food

companies asking if they use MSG in their food. Sometimes they say

yes or no but usually I either got the response of " I don't know " or

a nutritional chart without a list of ingredients. Would a fast-food

company or food manufacturer actually know what gluten and casein

are? Maybe it would help if I could see a sample letter you guys

send.

In the meantime, my son loves raisins but I read somewhere that some

companies use flour to prevent them from sticking together. While I

wait for a response to my letters, could someone tell me if SunMaid

has flour the last time you check. If it does what brand have you

found is safe.

Whole Foods Market has a wonderful list of all the items they carry

the does not have gluten.

Too bad some of the items contain casein but that is easier to look

for in the ingredients.

Thank you all for your help.
