Guest guest
Hello, Just to chime in and repeat what you've already heard.....we also ordered the PM's straight from . I called him when we received them to see what degree they should be set at and he said that the 60 degree in the PM's is equal to the 70 degree in the Markell's and he said that Dr. Ponseti sets the PM's at 60 degrees! Please don't beat yourself up! I know it can difficult when the future is unknown but it sounds like you are doing the right things for Marcus! and Mallory
Guest guest
As far as I know, the 60 on the s is the same as 70 on the Markells, so you should be fine. Marcia Question about rotation I'm feeling pretty guilty and want to come clean. I tweaked the show rotation. My little guy's knee and ankle joints have been popping and I decided to take matters into my own hands and not wait until the ortho appt. My son's shoe was set at 70 degrees and from what I am hearing from all of you (and from what Dr. P is saying), the 's need to be set at 60 degrees. So I went ahead and brought the rotation to 60 degrees yesterday. I figured that maybe the 70 degrees was putting too much strain on his joints and that was what was causing the popping. To be honest, I haven't heard the popping as often since I adjusted the shoe (or maybe it's my imagination). My question is (and this is what I am feeling guilty/scared about), do you all think the reason the angle was set at 70 at the beginning was because of the fact that Marcus' foot was more severe? Have any of you been told to put the s at 70 because of severity? I don't want his foot to turn in and then be told later on that I should have left it at 70 (and then not be able to bring it back to 70 degree abduction). I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks! Guest guest
LOL about coming clean! I wouldn't think 60 degrees is a problem since most are set that way. 's came that way and I just left them. No guilt! You know your baby better than anyone. I am no expert but wouldn't worry about them being at 60 degrees. I don't think relapse is related to severity as much as compliance with the bracing protocol (hours per day). But I am not an expert. Please don't feel bad for trying to do the right thing for Marcus, though. Carol and , bcf, 10/05, s 23/7 Question about rotation I'm feeling pretty guilty and want to come clean. Guest guest
I got the brace directly from , but my ortho adjusted them. Guest guest
You are too funny. I think you did the right thing. My understanding is that 60 is the appropriate setting for the PM's = to 70 on Markells. Even if it is not, 60 is within the appropriate range for properly corrected feet (60-70 degrees). I didn't think Marcus' foot was that severe so I doubt he would need to be overabducted. My thought is that your orthotist didn't know any better and changed it to 70 based on what he would do with Markells. Guest guest
I totally agree with what everyone has said but let me say that our daughter wears the 's (when not in casts! LOL) and she's rotated to 90 in them per Dr. P. Yes, we have issues with atypical and relapsing on a regular basis and it was an attempt prior to the ATTT to keep her corrected but it was what it was. And we had no issues with popping. Don't know why you needed to know that but I just thought I'd throw that in to the ring. Chris Re: Question about rotation You are too funny. I think you did the right thing.
