Guest guest
Cathy: Although I can't help you with finding a PCP in NC (I'm in California), I can tell you that you have joined a list serve that has a lot of wonderful & supportive people on it. I'm sure you will get responses from the local Durham gang, but I would also suggest asking Barbara or Dr. R for a referral since you are new to the area. Just a hint......it is better to email the post-ops privately and ask them specific questions that you would like the answers to. Dr. R has a section on his web site that lists hundreds of post-op's names and email addresses. I am still pre-op.....but scheduled for surgery on 11/8. Good luck to you. Guest guest
Cathy You're doing just fine... Jump in Sweetie, the water is warm.... LOL, Trudy Beginning the Journey Yesterday, I visited my gynecologist for an annual check-up and was told I was too obese to be examined manually and would have to have an ultrasound procedure to accomplish the checkup. Needless to say, with a BMI of 47 and a decision to end my misery - I am here to explore a surgical option. I have recently moved to North Carolina and do not have a primary care physician with BCBSNC. I live near Chapel Hill and would like to find someone that works well with Dr. Rutledge and knows about after-care requirements, etc. I would also like to hear from post-operative patients. I can't tell you how scared and excited I am about the possibility of having MGB surgery. I've never posted anywhere, so I hope I am doing this right...thanks for your help. Guest guest
Hey Fran I know what you mean I do the same thing also email me and let me when you want to chat...Yes I must say one of the best thing about Dr. Macura is that there is very little wait time between initial consultation and surgery date.... Lisbeth Fran Gallina wrote: Not a frequent poster but certainly gaining a lot from you all, I now have news to share as I begin this journey. I had my first appt. with the obesity surgery center headed by Dr. Macura in Staten Island, NY on Wed., Nov. 14th. It couldn't have gone better. The staff is very well organized and quite pleasant. What I am really so happy about is that so far, the first steps have been falling into place so nicely that my peace of mind gets better and better. I was able to see a pulmonologist yesterday (Thurs.), get a sleep study appt. for Tues 11/20, an appt. for lung function testing on 11/23, an upper endoscopy appt. for Thurs. 11/29. I already see a therapist and they will accept his psych eval. I will attend a mandatory support group meeting on Monday 11/19. My DH came with me and he said he was impressed which is not a common occurrence for him. I am hoping to have surgery in January. Dr. Macura's insurance person said I have 'the best' insurance. It is NY State Health Insurance Plan, aka The Empire Plan. Hospitalization is covered through BC/BS, but medical-surgical is provided through United Health Care PPO. We shall see. I send positive energy and prayers to all of you who are presently recovering and to those of you with upcoming surgery. And thanks to those of you who sent such such good feedback when I first came out of the lurkers' closet. P.S. Lisbeth, I hit the keys too fast and deleted your email so your number got lost. Blessings, Fran ----------------------------------------------------------------------
