,

PDD is in the autism spectrum, but don't get scared by that. It's

actually a good thing to have if your child has to have something in

that area. Kids with PDD, in my special ed experience, tend to have

some social difficulties, tending to keep more to themselves, learning

difficulties and just don't seem " right " compared to other kids. They

lack in the social skills area and seem kind of awkward. They can be

very intelligent, however, despite the learning difficulties. I

t's hard for me to put my finger on just how to describe it. I know

that Max has had PDD-like characteristics as I described above, but he

has come a long way and is much more social and integrated than ever.

But he prefers to be by himself and has a very big imagination and a

great sense of humor. He can make people laugh and laugh.

Also keep in mind that Dr. H. tends to overuse and overapply some

things. She is really into PDD and RSS, especially over the past few

years. In fact, she called me yesterday to tell me about a family

here in NJ who has a child with RSS and PDD. I forgot to call them

today. Darn! Now it's too late to call.

I'll be interested in what the specialist has to say. Please let me

know. I'm always trying to educate myself and learn more and more.
