for those who have followed my son jays struggle over the last year-

ie 33 restraints last year- after almost daily phone calls to our

state regional ed specialist- these are the services jay received

this week!!!!

OT from two specialist- one who will focus on training staff and

working with Jay on sensory issues, one who will focus solely on

keyboarding and an augmented writing system- his testing at 10 1/2

years for reading and writing still come in below kindergarten. A

communication/behavior consultant will implement behavior plan

including music therapy and a communication system for his poor

pragmatic skill, and she told the committee firmly that despite his

speech and language testing at 13 and a half there is repeated

documented evidence that he is unable to use those skill to resolve

emotional and coping needs, a psychologist told the committee that he

was highly stressed and in a great deal of pain. He will finally

begin socialization training and mainstreaming in art and gym.

Finally the 8-1-1 teacher pipped up and said he'll need a full time

LTA to do all this, it was all I could do not to jump up yelling

alleluiah! Been telling them that for 5 years! While the augmented

writing system and keyboarding are introduce, an assistive technology

evaluation will be completed before christmas to ensure that the

system is appropriate to his skills- ie alphabetically keyboard or

picture keyboard. They say he is fustrated now because he cant find

the letters. He cant write the alphabet or decode but he can put

index cards in alphabetical order easily. I feel like it is

christmas already. These were my long term goals!!
