Guest guest
Our son is on Lupron for premature puberty, but not an aromatase inhibitor. He recently had his doseage increased which seems to have caused bloating and weight gain. I thought the increased doseage was because of increasing bone age due to progressing puberty, but I guess I'm mixing up two things? Is it OK to let my son go into puberty by not using so much Lupron (since he is 10 and a half and it isn't so early, and because of the possible side effects of Lupron)... BUT to keep his bone age from progressing by using an aromatase inhibitor? Are both usually used together to help overall growth, or is Lupron just used to avoid the social awkwardness of an early puberty? I'm not thrilled by puberty in general, but I'm not sure the Lupron itself is working for the overall growth problem and don't want unnecessary side effects if he's not all that early.... I need to order those convention tapes!!! Inga Hi Inga, I have no personal experience with any of these drugs yet. is only 3. But from what we learned at the convention this year, I thought that Lupron only halted the symptoms of puberty, but did nothing for the symptoms of adrenarche, which is where the quickly advancing bone age comes in. I might be wrong, and you might want to email either Katy or Dayna for more info, but I thought to stop the advancement of bone age you had to treat the adrenarche with an aromitase inhibitor (such as Arimidex), at the same time as you are using the Lupron for the puberty. Just a thought.... Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 3 yrs 8 months old, 24.5#, 34 " , G-tube, GHT)
