Guest guest
Hi, Christee. Actually, my son WAS born with congenital scoliosis, which we didn't really realize until he was 7.5 months old and sitting up unsupported. He was kinda leaning his body to one side and each time I straightened him, he would go back and lean to that side again. He also had a slight rib hump. But no hairy patches. A tiny sacral crease, but no dimple or anything really noticeable or concerning on is back. When we had a follow-up for his foot at 8 months old, I asked the ortho to check out his spine and he did an x-ray right then and there and that's when it was confirmed that there were vertebral anomalies--5 vertebrae fused together on one side. (He just had spinal fusion surgery 6 weeks ago to this day, fusing the other side of those vertebrae.) That said, there are so many kids on this board with little dimples or hairy patches and it means absolutely NOTHING, so please don't worry. Next time you go to your ortho though, just have him take a look at your daughter's back. I found this online looking at another post. NOW I AM REALLY CONCERNED! Lilee has a good hair patch on her lower back where her spine meets her butt. We have always thought it was kinda cute, but it has been a curiosity to me always. I myself have minor scoliosis. So hereditary, she may have it. Do any other kids here have scoliosis also along with CF? How did you know? Do they have the hair patch? I have always thought her CF leg was longer than the other. This may explain that? I am going to call her ped. Dr. tomorrow and set up an appt. Any feedback GREATLY appreciated! Q: Are there any signs that parents might look for? A: There may be signs such as a rib hump or a small " bump " on the back. There may be foot problems, such as a clubfoot, which could be a tip off. Quite commonly, one will find a hair patch somewhere along the spine. If you notice any of these signs, take your child to a scoliosis specialist immediately.
