Guest guest
So sorry you had trouble with the shoes/bar. If there is someone at your Hospital (orthotis)that needs help with these maybe I can help. I'd find out if Dr. Loder or any of his partners plan on dealing much with Clubfeet, Ponseti style. We could figure out trainning for them or suggest they visit Dr. Ponseti and his people for a few days. -- In nosurgery4clubfoot , " and Claire " wrote: > > , > > It's great you'll be able to make the trip. Guest guest
Beth, Thank you! Mallory had the Markell shoes on for 4 days and ended up with pressure sores on the top and bottom of her non-cf. I called Dr. Loder's office and his nurse was not familiar with the shoes and indicated that she wasn't sure if Dr. Loder was familiar or not. He was willing to write a script for her to get the 's (which was kind of scary!) so we moved ahead with requesting the impression kit but I'm nervous because Dr. Loder is not experienced with them. Dr. Loder does deal alot with clubfeet Ponseti style(at least from the number of people that I've had conversations with in the waiting room!) As a novice to all of this...I think her foot looks good and she has good dorsiflexion. I think Dr. Loder and/or the Orthoist would benefit from information about the 's. Although Dr. Loder wasn't very receptive when I tried to present the information that I had Mallory is currently re-casted to hold her correction and her non-cf is open to air and healing so hopefully when we receive the 's (maybe as soon as Friday) we can start again with the FAB process. Thanks for your offer to help....it is greatly appreciated! I would love for Riley Hospital to be more informed! Guest guest
, I was the one who introduced our ortho, and therefore the entire ortho practice at the children's hospital here, to the shoes. My ortho was intrigued by the concept and then, when I had the s to show him, he ran around like a little kid showing all the other docs in the office. (all orthos) I had to wait to leave so he could show everyone the shoes. LOL He is sending all his club foot babies to get s now. Don't worry that your ortho has not had experience with the s. If your baby's foot is fully corrected, then the shoes are a breeze to use, in my opinion. They do come with some instructions and you can get more info here if need be. But, anyway, I am glad that we are introducing orthos all over the country to an alternative shoe for club foot babies! Carol and , 10-27-05, bcf, 23/7 in s Re: Visit to Iowa City Beth, Thank you! Guest guest
It is my experience that if the physician and orthotist do not have a working relationship to understand and respect the knowledge of the other they are not on the same page. There MUST be open communication between them. If they do not extend themselves to work the rest of the puzzle by reaching out to the resources available they are failing their patients. This is a HUGE road block to accomplishing success with the Ponseti method. This missing link can be fixed with some push to bring these services together. You as parents have seen the teaching should not be to physicians alone but to their ancilary staff as well. > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > > > We are going to see Ponseti on April 3rd for a consult on our > > > daughters > > > > foot. Guest guest
Carol, Thank you so much for sharing! It makes me feel better to know that we aren't alone in this process and that you were able to introduce the 's to your ortho and have it be successful. And because of that...look at all the other children and their parents who were helped because of you and ! It's hard because I've been so excited for her 's to arrive but also scared because it's all so new and unknown but you've helped me to know that we are doing the right thing for Mallory! Thank you! & Mallory (11-21-05 urcf--waiting for 's to arrive ) > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > > > We are going to see Ponseti on April 3rd for a consult on our > > > daughters > > > > foot. Guest guest
Beth, I feel like we have learned that lesson the hard way! Which is most of the reason why we want to go have a consult with Dr. Ponseti and make sure we are on the right path for the treatment of Mallory. It's frustrating when you feel caught in the middle of office politics and all you want is what's best for your child! > > > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > > > > > We are going to see Ponseti on April 3rd for a consult on our > > > > daughters > > > > > foot. Guest guest
(and our other Indy families), I know that Dr. Ponseti and Dr. Morcuende will be doing a lot of presentations in Chicago in March in conjunction with the AAOS. Maybe you could put a bug in the ear of the doctors at Riley to encourage them to attend the sessions being held regarding the Ponseti method! & (3-16-00, lcf) > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > > > We are going to see Ponseti on April 3rd for a consult on our > > > daughters > > > > foot.
