Guest guest
Hi le, has been on too many medications to list, one of them being Zoloft. He started taking his first meds when he was 7.5 years old. Unfortunately, none of them have really helped him, but is a complex kid. le, to be honest with you, it scares me to think of a 2-year old on psychiatric meds. I looked at the prescribing information for Zoloft. You can view it at: http://www.zoloft.com:80/pdf/ZoloftUSPI.pdf It in indicated for use in children six years old & up. In other words, the youngest children included in the studies were 6 years old. This does not mean that it would not be effective for a child younger than 6 - it just means there are no studies to support it. I would speak with the doctor a little more in depth and perhaps ask him if there any ways you can avoid medication until Coby is a little older. Whatever your final decision is, trust your own instincts. Parents are usally right when it comes to their children! Guest guest
le - I know I wrote you privately about our experiences with Zoloft, and other SSRIs and other meds. I totally forgot how young Coby is. I agree with that an SSRI for a 2-year-old seems a bit hastened. As I explained, Steve and I did a huge amount of research on the subject, and 6 years old and up are what were studied and recommended. Talk to the psychiatrist (make sure it is a psychiatrist as they are truly the only ones trained specially in these meds) and ask his or her thoughts on why they think an SSRI would be helpful at age 2. let me know what the dr says, OK?
