Guest guest
I have twin girls who were born 10 weeks pre-mature. both had reflux which caused some torticollis which then caused plagiocephaly. They have been in therapy for about 2 months. They are 7 months actual 5 months adjusted. Their head shape is better but the physical therapist says we need to get their head shape looked at. We live in Illinois so I guess I am trying to find where to go...different people tell me different places. Cranial technologies, hanger, or Dr. Vicari at Childrens memorial. Also I am trying to find out about insurance coverage we have BCBS PPO of Illinois. So far we have had not issue with coverage of anything because of their pre-maturity and medical diagnosis but I know that bands can be considered cosmetic. I just called Childrens Memorial who uses the STAR system and they said their is a fee of $300 that the insurance will not cover for the computer imaging. Is that normal with all places. Thanks sorry if I didn't make sense
Guest guest
I think the fee is common for Star locations. Cranial Tech does not charge a fee for the initial consult. There are two locations in Illinois, Oakbrook Terrace and Skokie. http://www.cranialtech.com/index.php?option=com_content & view=category & layout=blo\ g & id=63 & Itemid=59 I believe Hanger locations usually require a prescription before they'll even see you, but you'd have to call and check. My suggestion would be to check out all your options, then weigh your feeling about the quality of the locations, insurance/cost issues, and distance. It's also nice to have more than one set of measurements since there is a range of error. Do call your insurance and find out if the band can be covered, through which providers, what measurements are required so it will be classified as " reconstructive " versus " cosmedic, " and if you have an out-of-network benefit. FYI, the helmet is a " cranial orthosis " and is a type of " durable medical equipment. " Knowing these terms and the address and name of all the locations you are considering will help you to get the correct info when you call the insurance company. Better yet, email them so you have everything in writing. Read the insurance section under files for more info. Good luck! > > I have twin girls who were born 10 weeks pre-mature. both had reflux which caused some torticollis which then caused plagiocephaly. They have been in therapy for about 2 months.
