Guest guest
I had both parts with Dr Elariny...the " sleeve " and the DS done at the same time, and laproscopically. I know he is recommending that it be done in two parts nowadays, especially with the really large patients...give them a chance to lose weight before the second part, and reduces the stress on the patient overall...or so goes the reasoning. I'm the reason, I'm afraid, that he doesn't usually do the surgery all in one fell swoop. I was a VERY difficult surgery for him...10 and a half hours on the table, with all sorts of complications during the surgery, including " The Gall Bladder From Hell " that took three and a half hours to get out all by itself. I was too large (6-3 and 465) for the instruments, and too sick in any case..... The two part surgery seems to works well, from what I have seen and heard. My only concerns with it, frankly, is that getting insurance to cover the DS AFTER you have lost considerable weight is much more difficult, and I worry about the long-term effectiveness of just the sleeve. It seems to rely on changing the eating habits of the recipient before the stomach resumes normal function (not original function, but normal...it will always be a lot smaller than it was pre-surgery). But after a couple of years, I fear that weight gain can and probably will happen without going to the DS after a year or so. My wife had the sleeve, and is happy so far...down from 228 to 181 in four months. She wants more weight loss, though, and it has slowed a lot, and w are both worried about eventual weight gain. Ford dr elariny Hiya folks... I have a question for anyone who's hard surgery done by Dr. Elariny... Did you have the full bpd/ds or did you have it done in two parts? I've seen some messages on AMOS about how he does the surgery in two parts, sometimes one open and one lap. I'm interested in the fact that he does this surgery lap, and since I've already been approved for surgery with Dr. Hess in Ohio I'm thinking of instead going to Va. and having it done lap. any input would be appreciated. pixel ----------------------------------------------------------------------
