Guest guest
Hi, everyone... I called my mom yesterday and she had just gotten some IV Demerol so she was out of it! But, I got to speak with a friend who was there at the bedside and found out that she had an x-ray and was diagnosed with a break in her ankle! OUCH! No wonder she has been unable to move the left leg and has been experiencing such problems. They were going to put a boot on her ankle to help it heal. They were waiting on the technicians to x-ray her left knee and arm (she had bruises there as well from when she fell). She is still really weak on her left side and can't even move her foot on her own. She has been experiencing some SEVERE leg spasms which are difficult to get through. It takes three grown male aides to try to get her on the toilet.. she hasn't even tried to walk since the stroke so I'm concerned about her getting the physical therapy, etc. started and recovery underway... My aunt (her sister) will be coming up to Alaska on Tuesday so I'm very relieved that she will have someone there to help take care of her in the hospital and when she is discharged (the staff told my aunt that she would NOT be able to leave the hospital on her own). My brother will go up in early January and help her get things together and sell that house. If she isn't able to take a commercial flight we may have to medivac her back to Iowa! Thanks for everyone's support and prayers. Please continue to keep my mom in your thoughts and prayers. She still has a speech impediment and can be quite difficult to understand but her mind is clear and she still has her talkative moments! Guest guest
, Your mom is in my thoughts! Sounds like she's got some real challenges to deal with but having that clear mind is going to be a huge help in her recovery! My dad had a stroke in the early 1990's and because his mind was clear and he kept working at it, he was able to recover his speech almost 100%. May your mom have as wonderful a recovery! Best of everything! Tracey in Santee (San Diego) Dr. Keshishian 11/12/01 > Hi, everyone... I called my mom yesterday and she had just gotten some > IV Demerol so she was out of it!
