Congrats! I know that what worked for my son was using the ny-jump up to get

his legs and heels to be stronger. We had to modify ours so that he couldn't tip

it. We put tubes of plastic on the straps that hang from the spring to stabilize

it and it worked like a charm. Let me know if you want a picture...

Cast off! Into the s!...and a big thank

you to everyone!

Well, got his cast off today. He spent two weeks in this last

cast. A month total from the first day we saw Dr. Ponseti. I was

so nervous to get the cast off to see what his foot looked like, and

it looked GREAT!! What a miracle! That man works miracles!

This is the first time in 5 months that hasn't had to have a

cast on his foot. Between trying to troubleshoot the relapse here

at home, the broken leg, and finally the trip to Dr. Ponseti,

has not had significant time out of casts since last September!

Nearly 5 months! I almost cried thinking about it.

After taking the cast off, couldn't walk. His leg is so

stiff. He couldn't put any weight on the foot. Later when he tried

to stand up in the s, his right knee buckled under his

weight and he cried. Broke my heart, but what a trooper. He went

to bed peacefully so far this evening with the shoes on so we'll see

if he makes it through the night. While I rocked him before bed, we

talked about his " Ponseti shoes " and that he has to wear them when

he goes nigh-night. He seemed to understand. Tomorrow we'll begin

working out the stiffness and the weakness, and hopefully he'll be

standing in a few days.

Thank you for letting me vent occasionally here. Thank you for

being here and telling your stories. You all have truly been a

comfort and inspiration to me as our family goes through this. You

do so much good by your posts and responses and the wonderful

information you give. My son would not be lying in bed tonight with

his two straight feet if it weren't for all of you here on this

board. That's how valuable you are. My heartfelt thanks and

admiration goes out to you all.

...The journey continues.

Gratefully,

mom to RCF (3/30/04)
