I know I have not been an active participant lately. With the end

of school for me (well, the regular session anyway - summer school

starts on Monday and I have to do lesson plans for that) as well as

problems with our daughter, I just have not been too focused on

anything else. Those of you who know me know that I am not one to

be quiet for very long....

That being said, I wanted to share some great news about Max's visit

with Dr. H. yesterday. First of all, Max is just about 5'4 " . He

will be 17 years old in a little over a week (July 2) and his bone

age is only 14! Dr. H. said that his growth rate is the best it has

ever been - tracking now at 4 " /year. She wants to take advantage of

this fantastic rate, so she has upped his gh shots to twice a day

now. He is safely getting more gh, just in two smaller doses

instead of one huge one - even though the total is now more than it

was before. I thought it was for the purpose of spreading out the

goods so that they are utilized better, but Salem told me

that Dr. Stanhope just published something about gh being given

twice a day for some RSS kids to help stabilize insulin levels.

Considering Max's history with spilling ketones, it's a good idea

just for that!

Anyway, I have saved the BEST for LAST. Dr. H. has changed Max's

projected final height. It used to be 5'6 " - a gift and blessing in

our eyes. We would have been happy if he stopped growing at 5'3 " .

Now it is a whopping 5'8 " !!!!! Can you believe it? This kid who

has had so many medical/emotional/educational issues, has had

multiple surgeries, emergencies, medications, worries is actually

going to pass what even the great Dr. H. had predicted for his

height!

Also, Dr. H. was thrilled with Max's muscle mass. He now has

muscles in his arms and chicken legs. (She always complained about

his lack of muscle tone.) He's been lifting weights at school and

walking to and from school, so I know that has helped.

So, I'm glad to share this wonderful news with all of you. I hope

it inspires you and gives you hope. Those of you who have been

through all the really bad times with us know how much this means.

Never, ever give up.

Jodi Z
