Guest guest
Zoe, I know how hard the " multi-child " juggle is- I have 3 kids! I often struggle with just trying to get medicine doses in at the right time- and that's just occasionally, not every single day! All I can recommend is to try to figure out a daily schedule that you can stick to certain hours during the day that she's definitely in or out of the brace. I'd try to do it by the clock around her daily routine (i.e. mealtimes, play time, nap times etc.)......for example- out of the brace at 10 am until 2 pm or something like that. Figure out one or two periods/day that you'd like to have her out of the shoes. Now I haven't dealt with the brace in a very long time, and I was fortunate that I only had one child at the time...hopefully some other moms who are in the thick of it currently can give you better feedback! & (3-16-00, lcf) > > Another question to follow up on 's. Guest guest
The simplist way I know to recommend is just take it off for one lump sum of time each day. This seems inconvienient to some people but it the easiest way I've found in our two years of wear. If the high chair won't fit around them, improvise for a few months then it won't be an issue anymore. Find some cheap alternative at a thrift store if necessary, that will accomodate the bar. Perhaps more of a booster seat, even. Wrap a belt around the child and chair, so he doesn't fall out sideways. ??? just off the top of my head ya know. Use the saucer during off-time. Consider the importance of the saucer vs. the importance of establishing a solid routine of wear with your FAB. A saucer lets the kid sit up and use his hands, but by the same token he can sit on the floor and use his hands just as well. Our son never had any thing like that - at 7 months he was crawling and cruising up a storm in his FAB, it didn't slow him down at all. Again, you're only looking at a brief, and temporary amount of time until these things will be non-issues anyway because of more drastic hour reductions. The terms " night and naps " is really misleading. Everett is 2 1/2 year old and still wearing his FAB 12 to 14 hours a day - we do it all at once beginning in the evening and following through to the next morning. It's more like 13 hours... 8 pm till 9 a/m. I've never done the nap-time thing, what a pain in the butt. But he gets his full hours at night and that's OK too. Anyway, hope that's of help. s. reducing hours another ? Another question to follow up on 's. Any good tips on how to keep track of the hours spent in and out of the FAB? I also have an older baby (7 1/2 mo) wearing p/m's whose hours I am trying to reduce gradually. Her doctor prescribed 23/7 in the brace for a month after her 2nd tenotomycasts, and then said nights and naps. After reading the warnings on this site I have been trying to reduce gradually, but am having a hard time keeping track of the actual time spent in the bar. If she were an only child it might be easier and I'd probably record it in a little book or something obsessive like that. Between getting her in an out of the exersaucer, highchair, putting it on for naps, etc., I feel like Im taking it on and off all day. I'm currently shooting for 18-20 hrs but it really could be anywhere from 16-22 most days. Any ways to simplify? Guest guest
Oh ya, I'm kind of dreading it when I have 2 sets of hours to keep up with on 2 diffrent kids....then in a couple years the younger crying it's no fair the older doesn't have to wear his bar to bed anymore so why do I??? s. Now I haven't dealt with the brace in a very long time, and I was fortunate that I only had one child at the time...hopefully some other moms who are in the thick of it currently can give you better feedback! & (3-16-00, lcf) ---
