Guest guest
I am an attorney, currently practicing in disability and education law but formerly criminal defense, and I see so many rights violations in your message here that I don't even know where to begin. I will include a FEW observations here tho, in case you want to pass them on. You can send me an email if you want. > My eldest daughter, who works in the public school system here, just called > me, upset. There is a new second grade student who came to the school with > the warning that she might refuse to come in from recess. Well, she did > refuse, so the principal and several teacher went out, chased her down and > drug her into the school and suspended her for a week. A SECOND GRADE student [so about age 7] refusing to come in from recess requires several teachers/principal to chase her and results in suspension? It is the ADULTS at this school who require a behavior plan, not this child. > > Today my daughter heard blood curdling screams from the bathroom. I have been severely mistreated and set on fire in a school bathroom by my " peers " , and I was older than second grade both times. You bet I would be screaming if several adults were confining me in there, especially for such a minor infraction as failing to return from recess. She runs > to find out what's going on and finds the principal and several adults in > there, so leaves. The screaming continues and then the police appear and > this girl is handcuffed and taken away! This is child abuse for a child in second grade, among other crimes. It seems she had gone to the > library with the class, but wasn't ready to check out when their time was > up. She needs a 5-minute warning, sounds like AS to me, or a few other possibilities. A student teacher told her she couldn't get her book since her time was > up. She started throwing a fit saying that if they'd just let her have her > book, she'd be good, so four adults shoved this girl into the bathroom > where they tried to control her. This child's parents can sue the pants off the school district and the police department, and be set for life. At least get an appropriate behavior plan for the child, at least it would protect the child from the obvious behavior issues of the adults. A behavior plan would have to be followed, and I am sure it would not include the adult behavior and response that you listed here. According to the librarian and my aunt > (who works there and was present when this happened) she wasn't being > physical or threatening, just refusing to leave the library till she got > her book. She was taken to juvenile detention. Okay so the mother had to retrieve her daughter from juvie. I would advise your daughter to give this mother the advice that she file a complaint with your local District Attorney's office about this entire incident, and any other incident regarding this child. The other kids at this school would benefit also. Another reason I homeschool. Dana
