Guest guest
Christee, Yes, we did switch back to the Markells (still on the articulating bar), we only used the Dobbs AFO's consistently for about 2-3 months. Sammy actually went back into the Markells younger than Lilee is now, but he is not atypical and doesn't have the chubby feet or ankles. The original reason we went into the AFO's was because of pressure sores from the Markells. Which I have come to find out was probably due to my own user error and possibly that his bar was too short. Then we went into the modified AFO's attached to the bar, they were great as far as not causing sores. We had one of the velcro straps break and so that I could easily bring it to the orthotist to have it repaired, I put him back in the Markells for the day. That day he rolled over from back to front for the first time. I couldn't say that the switch in shoes was the difference, but it lead me to at least wonder if the increased ankle movement in the Markells helped him get that little extra momentum. He did wear the AFO's off and on until he outgrew them and didn't have any " delays " or muscle problems. Then when it came time to order new shoes we just stuck with the Markells. Thinking about what Kori was saying here about something soft to cushion the strap -- what if could make the rubbery inside of the P/M's to go up around her foot to totally keep the straps from actually touching her foot - he would need a full foot mold but it would be similar to the insert on the Dobbs AFO but instead of being a separate piece it would be all a part of the regular PM shoe? Kori, what do you think? If this is not feasible, I mean, does really have to go to all this work? I do think the Dobbs AFO might be a good short term alternative (with Ponseti's blessing of course), just until she loses some of that chubbiness. allison > >Kori, there IS some new ones forming. Guest guest
What about using them as " healing braces " . Keep her in 's till it appears that she's getting a sore ... then switch them out. That way you're still getting the benefit of 's most of the time.
