Guest guest
Okay people, my resolve is waning. Had a major fight with my (what I consider at this moment) very low functioning dh. Can't go drown myself in a pizza because I am nursing and gfcf for my baby who while only 6 months I believe is going to be on the spectrum (despite no vaccinations, dairy wheat, etcc.). My oldesst son, Aspie, has never shown any clear benefits from the diet except maybe some mild stomach discomfort if he overdoes dairy (when off). My second one (autistic) we think the diet helps but it is really hard to tell whether it is the diet or coincidence or interventions at work, etc.., We have tried to keep diaries, etc.., Do think at the very least there may be some lactose intolerance. We have been doing this for about a year now, quite strict. I am sitting here thinking how much money we can save (and use for other therapies, not to blow on junk!), how much time we could save not going to HFS, making own foods from scratch, making up food for when we go to people's homes (again and use this time for therapeutic interaction with our kids not to watch tv!). I guess I just need a boost folks. I don't want to go off the diet but without some clear results and the fact that my baby seems affected in spite of trying to do all the right things I am wondering... Also not wanting their whole lives to be blown if they get hold of a cracker. These people who get better without the diet, maybe they just learn to compensate for the gfcf complications (through aba or whatever) so that they can function in spite of it? Please be kind, we're hurting here. 3 (all of my kids 2, 9, and 6 months) on the spectrum-energy, money and time at a real minimum and just want to make sure I am using them wisely. We have learned how to make this fit in much better than when we started but there is no doubt that it would save time and money and energy for other therapeutic input if we didn't do it. Probably others have been where I am at before. Just want to know how you have thought it through. Thanks, Meggie
