Guest guest
Hi, Not sure just how much of this I've shared before, some to be sure. Two months ago my son's ABA preschool told us that they felt - he could likely attend a regular kindergarten class next fall (he's turning five in January) - that he's got about a 1 year speech delay (that's < a 25% delay, down from a 70% delay two years ago) - that he probably wouldn't diagnose as autistic now (current diagnoses are pdd autism/April '00 and cerebral palsy/April '98) One month ago we brought him to one of the regular K teachers in our local elementary school for an informal interview with the approval of the CPSE Chair and the School Principal. She was impressed by 's academic abilities and only suggested that an aide would be needed when he got shy and quiet at the end of the talk. Her feeling is that my son belongs in a regular K class, not special ed next year. Yesterday we brought to the pediatrician for his yearly checkup. The Doctor gave him a thorough physical and also checked some cognitive abilities, asking him to copy shapes, plus an eye exam with real letters. She said that the progress from a year ago is remarkable, and that if she didn't know him and his history, i.e. if she saw him for the first time would not have any developmental concerns. She feels he has neither cerebral palsy nor autism now. So the appointment with the ped. neurologist is in February, the kindergarten screening is in March, and the CPSE meeting is in April. The doctor is now willing to write a note to school next year saying that needs to be gluten and casein free for medical reasons. The only thing we weren't able to get is a note prescribing the papaya enzymes in case of infraction. The only way that can work is if my wife or I are able to come to the school and give it ourselves. Unless I can substantiate to the doctor that there's good scientific basis for this. I'm not all that worried about it though. keeps himself on the diet, has been for quite a few months and has been gfcf for a year now. And the school nurse and teacher are being very cooperative, I'm sure the aide if there is one will be as well. No words can describe what I've feeling now. Thanks especially to all of you on this list. A miracle has been happening with my son. God bless you all.
