I went there for a consultation there but ended up going to Cranial Tech in

Pasadena because it's an active band instead of a passive band. Hanger did seem

to know what they were doing though. We go to Bright Star PT in Tarzana and one

of the kids there has a Hanger helmet on-His mother was telling me that she has

seen a huge improvement. I'm sure they go to the Encino office but I'll ask

next time I see them.

Tech rep did reassure me that my daughter fits the criteria for insurance

approving (based on her past experience), and suggested that I call around to

see if there's another specialist within my insurance network. I thought it was

nice of her to offer that information. We have an appointment with Hanger on

Thursday. I've read that results depend greatly on the skill of the person

handling the helmet. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I wanted to mention that Hanger is an active band too (like docband and

starband). I think overall the reputation of hanger is more mixed than cranial

tech, which is why it is important to ask around. there are success stories with

hanger too. Maybe ask your local ortho for references from parents/kids who were

similar to your son. Ask if they keep before and after photos, how long your son

will be in the band, how often they'll schedule adjustments, how many patients

they see for banding...

For the record, the Hanger band is an active band. Did they tell you differently or use a different type of band?

So I spoke with a different lady today who went to Hanger Encino when her son

was 6 months old. was her ortho too-Very handsome I must add. But

anyways, she had a HORRIBLE experience! The helmet was too tight and left her

son with a blister that kept oozing-he still has a scar for it and he's 14

months old now. Anyways, after keeping it off for 3 weeks they tried again with

no luck and ended up going to a place in Santa . She said she felt like

they lost valuable time do to the Hanger experience. I would look into the

Santa place or CT in Pasadena.

I found that Hanger was inconsistant with the manufacturing of the bands. My dd

had 2... the 1st one took 2 weeks of adjustments to get it right and the 2nd was

always too big and a waste of time. tried to get it to work but a good

ortho can only do so much with a bad band.

I guess that the bad experience with the two bad fitting bands should also be a red flag. With my band, the ortho had a hand in making sure that the band fit correctly when the scan was done. A good scan produces a good band. A Hanger band is not inherently a bad fit. I say this because of the many posts that I've read where the fit hasn't been an issue and because I've been told that it is similar to the kind of band my daughter had. It seems that the fitting may have been done incorrectly with Jen and Luli as well. To me, half of the orthos skill is with the fitting and the other half should be with the adjustments once the band is made. A good ortho will do a good job with both.
