Guest guest
I think the youngest that anyone writes about on this list to have the ds was Kris Sparks' daughter. Her daughter was 16 and went to Dr. B in Spain. I just don't know if any surgeon will operate on a 13 year old. And, boy can I ever relate to being the fat kid in high school (yes, I was 13 and a freshman). And all teenage kids eat all the time. Eating is such a social activity at that age. You know, you go out for pizza and burgers and eat stuff at the movies. And I have no good suggestions for getting a kid to stick to a diet. How is that possible? I tried w/my own son (who is 20 years old, and probably 380 or something), and it just does not work. Hell, if diets ever did work, I don't think anyone of us would have ever had to have surgery. The only suggestion I have is for you to fix healthy food and not bring the extra stuff into the house. You won't be eating much of the sugary stuff so don't buy it as often. The kids will eat more fruits if you have them around. My major mistake was to continue to buy " junk " food even when I was dieting because I didn't want to deprive my children. LOL. . .I ate it myself. Fatness is genetic!! That's the way I feel, that's what I believe. My mom was fat, her mom was fat, her grandmother was fat and her grandfather was fat. She had 4 siblings. . .three were fat, two were normal weight. Both my sister and I were obsease as children, teens, and adults. I have one child (son) who is obease and two daughters who are not fat, but large with big bones. My husband, who is a Samoan, also come from large stock. Out of 7 sibblings three are obease and 1 is struggling with their weight to keep themselves semi-normal. The 3 who are normal weight were just lucky. I still would be obease if I hadn't had the surgery. I was just destined to be a big woman. My son hasn't asked about the surgery and probably doesn't want to have it, but I'd let him in a heart beat if he asked. Course, like I said, he's 20 and not 13. I feel for your children, and you can't insulate them from the rest of the world, but just make sure you praise them everyday for the wonderful kids that I know they are.
