Guest guest
Tim's endo got back to me today. I hope I get this all right, but this I believe is the gist of what he said: Studies have shown that after a year of using Arimidex that there was no difference in predicted height. Boys make a little of their own estrogen but most is converted from testosterone. The Lupron decreases the estrogen. The bone age increases more rapidly with more estrogen, so the Lupron should help the bone age to reach maturation more slowly, which would be age 18. Tim's bone age is 2 years ahead (12yrs instead of his chronological age of 10 yrs). So he increased his Lupron doseage. The treatment of bone age with Lupron and not with Arimidex was started by Dr. Geffner from LA, who also presented at the MAGIC conference and was recommended to me by MAGIC a few years ago, so I guess there are different opinions about its use by good endos. I hope they do get this right though. I suppose with a bone age 2 years ahead of his age, since our endo said he would stop growing at a bone age of 18, he would only have until he's 16 - unless they can slow it WAY down to be progressing LESS than his chrono age - but I don't have any idea if the side effects of Lupron would be worth such a slowing! The symptoms of diabetes are a lot of drinking and peeing, which Tim doesn't have, so I don't think his weight gain comes from that. I'm thinking that maybe he just got in a bit more of an oral eating habit over the summer in addition to his gtube. For awhile, I subtracted his oral calories from his tube feedings, but I hadn't done this for a while... Inga
