Guest guest
a note from another elle! I found that many things tasted bad right after surgery. The Crystal Lite and SF jello I had planned on using both totally had a chemical taste (still do) and I couldn't abide Gatorade at all. I ended up buying bottled water and using a touch of 'Real Lemon' in the water - and I wanted it very cold too! I ate a lot of cottage cheese w/ acidolphous because of the problem with antibiotics killing off our natural bacteria and also supplemented at 3 weeks with a couple of capsules of live natural bacteria from the HFS. I use lots of unsweetened applesauce for flavoring on things like oatmeal..My doc recomended and I complied with a 3 week pureed food diet. I felt iw was the best for my body though I know other DS patients have been told diffferent. I didn't want to stress those stitches and my new digestive system. I used lots of soups and since it was summer, slivers of fruit. Yum what a good taste those things gave me. After about a month, the wierd taste went away. Each body is different of course but over time you will discover the things that taste good. One problem was coffee! I loved coffee pre op. Now I can't stand the taste! I have gone to herbal teas and occasionally try a cafinated tea but it tends to frazzle me with caffine shakes now. It's hard to understand why I have this reaction but I guess I'll live with it. Especially since coffee has gotten so expensive. Sometimes I forget and order coffee at a restaurant and then grimace at the taste...even here in Coffee-town USA (aka Portland OR) and my favorite Seattles Best Coffee makes my teeth feel itchy. Lets see what else....well mostly things that are made with chemicals taste bad. I've gone to a 'natural' tooth paste-I couldn't stand the taste of Crest which I have used for a zillion years, mouthwash still bothers me, oh and yesterday I tried Mcs lemonaid when when were on our trip back from the holiday. It was totally gross for me. My suggestion is to try things every few weeks, if its something you really like, otherwise just find a blander alternative for a while. Congrats on your DS and keep in touch--we elles have to stick together elle in orygun, who is NO elle mcpherson! 4 months out and under 200 for the first time in decades
