Guest guest
Someone else might have more information for you, but I just wanted to say that we never had any pressure sores with the casts. She did have a pressure sore with the Markells in the first 24 hours or use and we are now using the shoes (Ponseti/ FAB) did have some overall bruising after her second casts at the age of two weeks which I attributed to her growing too quickly for them. I don't know how common it is to have pressure sores with casts. Welcome to the group and you will find many good answers to your questions here! Carol and , bcf, 10-27-05, s 23/7 Pressure sores Hi! We just started the Poseti Method 5 weeks ago after trying the French Method with slow results after 5 months!! We went for our son's 5th casting and he had a really bad pressure sore on his right foot. The dr decided to put him on antibiotic and NOT cast the foot this week. Is this common? His feet are looking great and were told that we will have 2-3 more casts before the tendon release.
Guest guest
I know with pressure sores it is helpful to have " air " heal them and since you are in the casting phase, it sounds like it should not be a problem with the fact that his foot is not casted. It may mean that this foot might need an extra cast or two since it may relapse a bit. Did you son show any problems in this last week of casting-was he fussy or uncomfortable? I would ask at the next casting to have extra padding/gauze wrapped around that area to prevent this from happening. Typical pressure sores are caused by friction-similar to a blister-so this means his littlefoot moved around a bit in the cast. Guest guest
Hi there! Welcome to the board! I'm sorry that you're dealing with a pressure sore and setback. Did the doctor figure out what caused the problem? Was the cast applied incorrectly? I, too, think it's better to leave the feet uncasted and get that sore healed up correctly and just deal with the relapse with more casting. Is your doctor experienced in treating older children with the Ponseti method? Do you mind sharing what doctor/hospital is treating your baby? Is it the same group that you started out with using the French physio method? We're glad you're here!
