I have been a member of this board for five years and I have never heard of

a place where you can order the band yourself. As far as I know, you always

have to go through an orthotics office to get one.

Where can I order helmet?

I am new here. My son will have his first evaluation for helmet in three

weeks and he's going to be 7 and half month old. I have to pay the helmet by

myself for $2800 since we still fighting with our insurance carrier. There

is only one place near us makes the helmet and that is what they charge. I

heard there are few place you can order it for less cost after I get the

measurements. Can you suggest any? Thanks in advance.

Helmets/bands are custom-made to each individual head. That's why heads are scanned or casted(older technique) to make the helmets. Measurements alone are not enough to make a band fit your child. I can't imagine that anyone would place an order for a band w/o actually treating the child. From: "Foley, Molly" <mafoley@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Wed, March 23, 2011 3:10:17 PMSubject: RE: Where can I order helmet?

Just out of curiosity, if you found a place to order the band from would the OP

do the fitting and adjustments for you?

Yes, she said they will. The hospital charges by each visit for adjustment.

So, if you're paying for each adjustment, isn't the cost going to add up quickly, especially if your child needs a lot of adjusttments? You could end up paying MORE for the helmet than you would if you just purchased it from a provider, who doesn't charge beyond the price quoted for the helmet(all adjustments, follow-ups covered at no charge.) At least the out of pocket cost is upfront and you know exactly what you will pay. Just something to think about. Good luck!
